Title: Should I get tested? Please help!
Post by: scared000 on February 13, 2014, 07:57:44 am
Hi.
A few weeks ago i french kissed a guy who had just come from the dentist after getting a root canal. I did not see or taste any blood coming from his mouth. He did not complain of any bleeding either but he did say his tooth hurt. I am 99% sure i did not have any cuts or sores in my own mouth but what are the chances i have gotten infected? I don't know if the guy has hiv or not, i'm assuming he does not. I have been searching the internet over this issue. Some say there is a risk, some say there isn't, who should i believe?? I am worrying myself sick over this!

You did not have a risk for HIV from kissing .

The risk factors for sexually transmitting HIV are from unprotected anal and vaginal sex .
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you. But just for my own peace of mind, would there have to be a LOT of blood present in the mouth to get infected this way? Would I have surely noticed and tasted blood?
I came across this link http://www.freedomhealth.co.uk/forum/f6/french-kissing-hiv-rational-irrational-8660/ that suggests large amounts of infected blood would have to be present. Can you please confirm this?

You did not have a risk period . Kissing is not a risk for HIV although you will find pleanty of other sits that say it is . We use the latest peer-reviewed science for our assessments and do not comment on what other sits say . If you have a question about another site go ask them .

HIV is fragile and your saliva contains dozens of property's that damage it an render it unable to infect . If you had serious significant wounds in your mouth and the other person had copious amounts of HIV infected blood there may have been a slight risk but that is not your situation and you are worrying over nothing .

If you don't trust our information go test ... it will be negative if this is your only concern .

Can you please tell me if there is any risk of getting hiv if a guy's finger touches your vagina? He touched my clitoris and massaged me but did not insert his finger up inside my vagina. The guy did not have any visible cuts or bleeding on his finger but even if he did, should i be worried?
My second question: I touched his erect penis with my hand. There was no fluid on his penis, he did not cum or ejaculate but is there any risk of getting hiv from this?

No there would not have been a risk.

HIV is unable to reproduce outside its living host (unlike many bacteria or fungi, which may do so under suitable conditions), except under laboratory conditions; therefore, it does not spread or maintain infectiousness outside its host.

HIV is transmitted by;
Unprotected penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex
Sharing works with other IV drug users
Mother to child
