Pre cum male to vagina infection
« on: June 01, 2008, 10:13:02 am »
Hello all,

My history I am Male and married.  In 2005 infected, I had the classic symptoms about a month later sick, sore throat, swollen sore glands, rash, and no antibiotics really helped, it took about a month to kick it.  I tested neg in 2/05 positve in 9/05.  My current counts as of 5/08 217-4 24,000vl 25%.  Not currently on meds.  My wife is negative.
We always have protected sex, no condoms have ever broken etc.

In May 08 we both came down with the flu, which is a good thing because if she had been infected I wouldn't have got it.  However she was just getting over the flu and then she came down with sore a throat and swollen glands and fatigue.  Antibiotics helped sore throat but she still just getting over these symptoms 3 weeks later.

In April we had protected sex.  However pre cum may have gotten on the condum by my fingers when I put it on. We immediatly had sex.

So my question is this: What are the chances that she is infected by my pre cum?

We have stopped having sex.  She is concerned that she may have it.  All of this is understandable.  When we first found out she was supportive we had sex probably once a week about a year later by her initiation, every 2 weeks and this year every 3 weeks by my initiation.  We have kids  and she is scared.  We are going to get her tested the first of August and if she is negative I am probably going to say thats it.  She told me she has sex with me now for me.  When we have sex she gets off and all but the intimacy is missing.  I can't worry about gettin her sick and I need to be intimate with a woman.  I love her.  She needs to be free of this.  Just spouting off so please answer my quesion above.

Thanks for your answers.

The way you described the situation, the risk was zero. Continue to use condoms.

2005,

I agree with Rodney, what you describe with possible cum on the outside of the condom isn't a risk for hiv transmission. Hiv is a very fragile virus that quickly becomes damaged and unable to infect once it's outside the human body.

It's a good idea for the negative partner in a serodiscordant relationship to be tested at least once a year. Perhaps it's time she tested for peace of mind. If this is the only situation you're worried about, I fully expect her to test negative.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
