Title: freakin out please help
Post by: slck50 on July 01, 2006, 08:39:38 am
I cut myself when I was at work today handling some lumber. I had about a one inch cut but it wasn't that deep.  someone at work grabbed me on the wrist that got cut with their hand.  if they were bleeding could the blood have gotten into my cut and given me hiv??  i was cut around an hour and a half before this happened.  should I get tested or what?

Was your cut bleeding or was it bandaged? Did the person grab you over the cut? You didn't give enough information to give you a risk assessment.

It seems to me this is really about a lot of what ifs.

From what you have described, the other person wasn't bleeding. All he did was grab your hand. So I don't see where there would have been any risk for HIV transmission, even assuming the other person is HIV+, which is something you are just what iffing about. This was not a situation in which someone who's HIV+ had an open cut from which blood was pouring into your open wound. Which is what would have to occur for there to be even a possibility of HIV transmission in this kind of situation.

Please clarify if I am missing something here.

As far as I can see there's nothing to be concerned about in terms of HIV.

Can I ask why you are using different usernames while posting to our forums? Thus far, you have also used scared333 (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=1182.0)

Please realize that this kind of activity is disrespectful of other forum members, as well as our moderators. People spend a considerable amount of time helping others in these forums. Using multiple accounts is at the very least annoying, if not deceiving and disrespectful of others. It is also against our Terms of Membership (http://forums.poz.com/Terms.htm) which you agreed to when you became a member. This information is also contained within the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0), which you should have read by now. So really, you have no excuse.

You must realize that the answers won't change, no matter how many names you post under.

I would appreciate a reply to this message, and I hope you will commit to using just one account - preferably your original one. If not, you will be banned from further access to the forums.

well now that you have found out i made two names I am sorry but i did this for one reason only.  i made a post about a similar incident about a week or two ago and i didn't want to post again fearing that i would get no responses.

as for what I have posted in this thread I didn't seem to get a clear reply.  to try and clarify the situation i had two cuts on my wrist they were not deep but they were cuts.  an hour after this happened someone was leaving work and they grabbed me by my  wrist  to say goodbye to me.  now my cuts were not bleeding at the time and i inspected my wrist afterwards and saw that there was a semi scab on it and there was none of his blood visible on my wrist as well.  now I would please like some insight as to whether or not i was at any risk for exposure to HIV.

No risk.
