Yes, I AM Supporting You!

Hello My Fellow Members...

I'd like to open the floor up with a discussion for an "HIV/AIDS Checklist".

What are some of YOUR suggestions that you would recommend to someone whom is newly diagnosed as well as individuals Living With HIV/AIDS in order to receive/gain the BEST possible CARE for their health ? (ie: Do's, Dont's, Shock, Denial, Guilt, Stress, Anxiety, Fear, Worry, Depression, Mental Health, Labs, Meds, Disclosure, etc...)

Let Your Voice Be Heard. This is so that an individual can have some sort of direction in order to have all of their "bases/needs" covered with their HIV/AIDS diagnosis.

Here are some of mine:

1.  Get an experienced doctor -- make that first appt -- it might take a while to get in (ask, over the phone, to get your labs done prior to the appt -- so you have the results)

2.  Learn all you can (this may be individual -- knowledge alleviates fear for me -- but I know it can increase it in others -- so do what is right for you)

3.  Find some HIV+ support -- either a group or an individual or two

4.  Remember to breathe when it begins to feel like it is all too much

5.  Take it all one day at a time -- it DOES get better with time -- even if you can't imagine how just yet.

There's plenty more, but those are the top 5.

Hugs,
Mike

Some note about disclosure should be in there I would imagine. Something along the lines of, hold off on disclosing to anyone other than your significant other until you have some doctor's visits under your belt and you have educated yourself enough about the virus. I know if I had told anyone other than my wife during that first or second week I would have likely freaked them out because of how emotional I was and because of how uneducated about the virus I was. I remember thinking that I could just die at any minute. Man it was crazy. That's not a time to be telling many loved ones what's going on in my opinion.

Yes, I AM Supporting You!

Hello My Fellow Members...

I do find it quite odd that there has only been (3) three good responses thus far with the number of views that this topic has gotten. Please help me to understand this as this is a common topic that we all have or are dealing with on HIV/AIDS.

In our own way, each and everyone of us are unique. Perhaps there is something that you are doing that can, may or will HELP someone else with their management of HIV/AIDS. Please DO feel comfortable with sharing this with the others in our group.

I'd also like to share what has worked for me as it can, may or will HELP you just as well.

1. Locate a GOOD ID Doctor and build a GOOD relationship with him/her.

2. Discuss ALL of your medical concerns with him/her.

3. If on meds, you may want to consider taking them as your Doctor has prescribed them to you.

4. You also may want to keep a running record of your Labratory results in order to monitor your progress.

5. You may want to consider a routine exercise program that fits your current needs.

6. You may want to consider developing a nutritious eating diet that BEST fits your needs.

7. You may want to consider building a strong support system.

8. You may want to further your Education on HIV/AIDS.

9. You may want to consder developing a Positive mental Attitude and Outlook.

10. You may want to consider Dealing with any unecessary Stress or Anxiety that may exist in your life.

11. You may want to consider to be totally open and honest with yourself and others in your support system.

12. You may want to consider socializing with others to talk about your concerns and get a second opinon.

13. You may want to consider developing more effective methods that will HELP you cope with your adjusting to your Medical condition and any side effects that may be present.

14. LIFE DOES NOT STOP WITH HIV/AIDS! You may want to consider developing a more effective Plan of Action in order to reach your desired goals in this life.

15. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! If there is something that you beleive that can, may, or will HELP someone, by all means please DO share this with the group.

If there is anything else that you would like to ADD to this list which can be used in a Positive effective manner, Please DO take a moment of your time to share this with the group.

In ALL of our lives in this life, there is room for any Positive Improvements and/or adjustments to make us even better as an individual.

Thank you for your time. It's not about me, it is about US!

Step 1.  Punch the Dr. In the nose just to feel better.
Step 2.  Round up the boys for a night of drinking
Step 3.  Recover from said night
Step 4.  Come to this site and read Eldon's Posts
Step 5.  Get friends BACK together and Drink again and then RE-read the posts to see if they make more sense.
Step 6.  Tell ACinKC he should be a fucking comedian
Step 7.  Start a porn thread and live on in infamy

There you go.... pretty easy.

Hey ACinKC...

There you go. Keep it plain and simple and not complicated. Sounds like you have it worked out just as well. Also, by your being a comedian, that is a compliment. When the treasure has been buried and it is found and it is made known to the one....the potential is unlimited for that individual. Take it to Heart!

Also, the floor is open to one or ALL to Let Your Voice Be Heard. So, please do join in on the discussion.

Happy New Year for 2007!!! and BEST wishes to YOU!

1) Have a bloody good cry, get it out your system
2) Realise that you have been given another chance, so make the most of it
3) Appreciate those around you, learn to rely on them and trust them
4) When you start on meds stock up on paracetamol and anti-diarrhea tablets
5) Don't forget to BREATHE

Thats what worked for me, my top 5

Eldon,
Quite a bit said and all good.  For me:

1.  Forgive youself and stop beating yourself up.
2.  Find the right doc and don't take his/her word as the almighty gospel.  They are only human so ask, question and suggest.  It is your life.
3.  Place your health, mind body and soul first.  No, I did not do this and paid.
4.  Educate yourself.  Ignorance sucks and leads to drama.
5.  Tell the people who you know will support you.  If you can't, then get to a support group.  They don't bite.

As you can tell, I made plenty of bad choices, but I learned to make good from the bad.

That's all for me...
Roger
