Hie guys. I have a problem.
I'm 24 and My first encounter with a prostitute was on the 26th of December 2013. I was drunk. I first did the missionary then I wasn't coming so I opted for doggy. We changed condoms then I put another one. So for the second round I was having sex from behind with the second condom. After I ejaculated , she helped pull condom from my penis and looked at it. She said it had broken. I was just shocked but didn't put so much thought until next morning. The problem is I washed myself after 12hrs , after I woke up ie. In the event that the condom broke for real and I got in contact with her fluids am I at risk now. Do I need PEP.....I'm doomed, I have a gf whom I was first with and she was first with me n I was making plans to marry her. Could I be infected....My penis had no cracks as I hadn't had sex for about 2weeks.
Please help me decide, only got a few hours until I'm not eligible for pep. I believe she was positive. She robbed me the money that was in my wallet as well. Bad encounter......I shouldnt have done it. Please help.

While you have had a risk and you do need to test, it is very much on the lower end of the scale. Hiv is significantly more difficult to transmit to the insertive partner, and I have never seen the insertive partner end up hiv positive following a condom break, PEP or no PEP. I do not expect you will be the first.
PEP is not recommended for the insertive partner following a condom break when the hiv status of the receptive partner is unknown. You might think you know her status, but you do not.
If you and your girlfriend have been having unprotected intercourse without both testing hiv negative first, you also do not know your own hiv status.
The earliest you should test following the condom break is at six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert an test positive by this time, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.
A six week negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.
You need to know that if you do go for PEP (I wouldn't recommend it), it will extend your window period by four weeks. You should have a baseline rapid hiv test first before you are given PEP, in case you are already hiv positive. The earliest you should test again would be six weeks after your last dose of PEP, and again at three months after your last dose of PEP.
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.
To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.
Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thanks a lot Ann. I will have to find a way to avoid raw sex with my girlfriend now until I re-check my status. For how long must I wait to go for STD checks after the occassion?

Other STIs can be tested for at ten days to two weeks. Syphilis shares a three month testing window with hiv for a conclusive negative result.
You should be using condoms with your girlfriend until such time as you have BOTH tested negative for all STIs, including but not limited to hiv.
