Dropping Sustiva?
« on: November 26, 2014, 11:31:50 am »
I've been taking Prezista, Norvir, Isentress, and Sustiva for the past eight years. My VL has been undetectable during all that time, except for a few minor "blips."

My doctor has suggested that I consider stopping the Sustiva and staying with just the Prezista, Norvir and Isentress. She feels that this regimen would be effective at keeping my VL undetectable and would spare me some of the side effects of Sustiva, such as elevated cholesterol and depression. (I do suffer from anxiety and depression, but it's not any worse with Sustiva than it was long before I ever became infected.)

I'm very nervous about dropping Sustiva. It took many years for me to achieve undetectable VL, and I don't want to risk developing resistance to Prezista and Isentress. With my resistance profile, there just aren't many options left for me.

Is there anyone out there who has been on just Prezista, Norvir, and Isentress? Does anyone know of any studies regarding this regimen?

Thanks for any information you may have.

- Allan

Zach,

I know that Sustiva has been a big problem for many people because of its psychological side effects. However, that has not been a problem for me. I do suffer from anxiety and depression, but that predates my HIV infection by many years, and it is no worse than it's ever been been. Actually, lately I've been doing pretty good with the anxiety and depression.
