Steve Irwin (aka as the Crocodile Hunter) just died
« on: September 04, 2006, 01:11:17 am »
Apparantely he was killed by a stingray while filming off Port Douglas, Queensland, Aus.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/crocodile-hunter-reported-dead/2006/09/04/1157222051512.html

The barb is alleged to have gone through his chest and killed him.
I never thought much of the man, but really feel for his wife and two young children.

Crikey!!!

Damn. That is sad news. I used to love watching his shows. Jay
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

LOL Crikey! was my first thought too, Steve, when I read about him earlier this morning.

I guess we all knew that one day he'd say "Crik"... and be no more. He sure seemed to have a thing for provoking dangerous creatures. I feel for his wife and kids too and I hope he's left them well provided for.

I predict the whole thing was caught on film and in about a years time it will be in a documentary about his life on BBC2.

I used to switch the channel pretty quick...he was a bit of a hyper dude, that's for sure.

Still, he was a wonderful advocate for wildlife, and obviously had great passion for his work.

44 is far too young.

RIP Stever Irwin.

Hello Steve,

Thats is certainly sad news. Honestly though, I couldn't watch the guy. Talk about hyper -active !!

We were just taliking about him at work last week. I would have thought for sure it would have been a crock or gator that would get him in the end. Very sad....

Sad indeed. In a way this proves anything can happen --even for someone like Irwin who claimed he was always in "full control" (his exact words) even when he had his baby son in one hand and croc bait in the other. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. I'm sure he had life insurance for his wife and children

They were filming so it certainly is on film.

Disturb me, please.

It will find it's way onto the internet, rest assured.

Anyways, I'm not too surprised, to be honest. If you see the footage of him with animals he gave them like no space. It was bound to happen sooner or later, with one animal or another.

Stingray though. That sucks. I guess it must've been quick though, so that's a good thing. =/.

I find it hard to get worked up about the death of this fellow. The bilious outpouring of sentiment down here is nothing short of galling.

There's even talk of a State Funeral in honour of this bogan.

The man was a notorious conservative and an excruciating bore. As for the weeping and wailing about his now fatherless children, I note that Irwin was richer than Croesus. I suspect Bindi and Bob (I kid you not, that's what he called them) will find ample comfort rolling around in the mountain of cash that their father amassed in his 44 pointless years.

I, for one, send my heartfelt thanks to the stingrays of North Queensland for ridding us of this egregious pest.

I know! A state funeral for a man who tried to feed his baby son to a crocodile! Only in Queensland.

The other line that's being run down here is that the twit was "a hero." A hero? Not as far as I can tell. Being in the way when a stingray lashes out doesn't make you a hero. It makes you unlucky.

And dead too, it would appear.

Not really surprised at his death, the only surprise is that it did not happen sooner. Especially when you saw him handling crocs, snakes (bah hairs already standing on end) and other creatures I would not knowingly go within 20 kms of!

Also, apparantely his wife Terri wasn't the love of his life - it was Barb that was closest to his heart.
