Calories intake and hiv
« on: May 03, 2011, 09:11:19 am »
I read a lot about diet, healthy habits, meals and so...

But what about calories?

Does that input has to be increased now with virus in my body?

I read somewhere that the body is in constant fight with viruse and that's why it needs more calories. Not sure if that works exactly that way (the article also said that drinking cold drinks is not good idea because the body loose much needed energy that way heating up the liquid...)

Thx.

I've never heard anything about a need to increase calories, but I have heard that it's a good idea to make sure you get plenty of protein.

There is a Nutrition & Diet Tips section in the Lessons area of this website that you may want to read.

There are also quite a few articles put out by the USDA that you may want to look through.

Basically, you just need to eat a balanced diet and perhaps take a vitamin supplement.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

You're more than welcome, Nic. I love the photo in your avatar, BTW. Very dreaming looking landscape.

Thanks for the link, it was very informative; it makes reference to the original poster's question, that you may need to increase calories because your body is constantly fighting/managing calories.

Although it says adequate protein is important, it goes on to say that protein needs are not that great, that most people in the US get more than adequate protein and that ensuring you get enough protein is easy to accomplish.
