Lots of sypmtoms/negative results
« on: August 25, 2007, 11:00:55 am »
Hello.  I would really appreciate some feedback on this.  I am frustrated and desperate.
I am a female in my early 30's and I had unprocted sex at the end of March this year.  First the night sweats began.  Then a unrinary track infection.  Next was bacterial vagionoises.  Then monthly yeast infections.  I have a heavy coated tougue that has been around for at least 3 months.  I have pain/tightness all over my neck.  I also have visual disturbances (floaties).  I have seen so many doctors, including a infectious disease specialist, and I am not getting anywhere.  I have tested negative for HIV 4 times.  The first test was around 35 days after exposure, the second test was around 75 days, the third test was at 92 days and the fourth test was at 113 days.  The specialst said I need to test again at six months which would be the end of Septemeber.   I have noticed in other posts, several people have stated after 13 weeks, your test is conclusive.  Does that also apply in my situation, being that I have all of these horrible symptoms that are not improving?  Please help me out.  I am getting no where with these doctors!

bad,

You are without doubt hiv negative and you do not need further testing over this incident.

It sounds quite possible that the yeast infections are a result of antibiotics you took for the bacterial infection. You need to speak to your doctor about this and get the anti-fungal treatment you need.

None of the vaginal problems you are experiencing have anything to do with hiv. You are hiv negative. Get to the bottom of the real cause - you have ruled hiv out.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you do NOT need further testing over this incident, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Make sure condoms are being used, correctly and consistently for anal or vaginal intercourse, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Anne,
Thank you so much for your response, for you have really lifted my spirits up.  You are right about the condoms and at my age, I really should have known better.  Thanks again.

BD,

You're welcome.

Please don't beat yourself up over this - but do learn from it.

You might be interested in checking out the information on the female condom and other female controled methods of hiv prevention. And don't be afraid to carry condoms with you. Far from saying to the world that you're easy, it says to the world that you care about both yourself and others.

Relax and see your doctor about the yeast - and you'll be feeling better in no time.

Anne,
I hope that I am not bothering you, but I have to put this out there to you.  I have been treated for the yeast infectious.  One Dr. thought I had oral thrush because of my coated tongue and prescribed me 8 diflucan, which did not hep my tongue or the vaginal infections.   Nothing is killing the yeast and I have had night sweats every night since possible exposure(about 5 months now, and I never had them before).  I am very tired  and I don't feel well.  Like I stated before, the areas in my neck where my glands are are very painful and tight.  Should I really rule out HIV at this point?  I so so worried.
Thanks,
Bad.

You are reliably negative, whatever the reasons are for your symptoms, are unrelated to HIV.

BD,

You have ruled hiv out as a possible cause. You do not have hiv.

Sometimes it takes dietary changes along with anti-fungal medication to get off the yeast merry-go-round. You need to do your own research on this and talk it over with your doctor and/or a reputable nutritionist.

This is outside the scope of our forums. All we can tell you is that based on your lab results, you ARE hiv negative.
