SOMEONE PLEASE SLAP ME!

WHAT'S THE 411 ON SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES-- USUALLY NOTHING AND EXPECTED WITH HIV OR SOMETHING TO NOT HAVE A WAIT AND SEE ATTITUDE ABOUT?

I have a swollen node under right arm.  It's not sore.  It feels hard and fixed to me.  When researching, these kind are usually associated with more serious things.  In January to early February, it felt like right side of neck was stiff leading up to temple.  Doc had felt swollen node in neck, but other doc disagreed.  I thought the stiffness was probably from sleeping wrong and let it go.  And, it went away after about two weeks. 

I just told someone here to not freak out about his suspicion of lymphoma, as his tests aren't back.  I made a joke that I was giving that advice even though I would be the first to do it.   When I felt this thing, I did kinda have a mini freak for about 30 mins thinking the worst.  Web MD can be bad when it talks so much about hard and fixed often seen with cancers and people with HIV at higher risks.  Anyway, I think I am over my 30 min freak.  Although, it didn't help when my friend said he could see the node from the other side of room.  I certainly haven't lost weight.  Actually gained 5 pounds, even though we've been walking the dogs about 3 miles a day.  I have been getting itchy at night. 

To sum up, I am doing the techniques my therapist has given me about controlling fear and anxiety.  Swollen nodes are common with HIV.  Most of the time, nothing serious.  I suppose it didn't help hearing about family friend having very similar node checked out and it was cancer.  Teddy is trying hard not to be a drama queen, although we know people have run into problems by dismissing things or a wait and see attitude.  Thought maybe good opportunity to discuss nodes and when to/when not to be concerned.  In my 11th year of infection and not on meds.  Last CD 4 was 700+ and vl about 12,000.  My partner reassures me that swollen nodes are
Part of HIV.  He even suggested perhaps all the new exercising got the lymph tissue circulating through my lymphatic system.  Already had appt at doc next week, so will have it checked.  I had swollen neck and groin nodes years ago, but never in armpit.  And, I haven't had any pop up until now, if memory serves.  So something out of the norm does make me wonder.   I often have pain around my liver/gallbladder.  Not sure if liver issues can cause swollen nodes in pit.  This is why I wanted folks to share their knowledge about lymph nodes.  Again, I've settled down.  Just thought good opportunity for a discussion about lymph nodes, HIV, and risks for cancer.

In 2006 a lymph node in me armpit swelled to the size of a golf ball, it went down in 3-4 weeks. Doc was not concerned and did no tests.

I have got swollen lymph nodes (usually painful) from time to time.

If you're concerned, just get it checked out by the doc and save yourself the worry.

Agreed.  If it doesn't go away in a few days, go see your doctor and get it checked out.

Its best the get these things checked out by a doctor .

Do you have allergy's ? . I do and its that time of year here in the south , I'm having similar symptoms due to the yellow stuff in the air .

Ted, how often are you going to a therapist and how long have you been going with this frequency. Because frankly it's not working at all. What medications are you being prescribed for your anxiety? Are you just taking them as needed or are you taking them in a standard manner every day?
