Hello Everyone,
In an effort to get things back on track, I've started a new thread. Below is my original post. Please only use this thread to cast your vote for AMG 2009. Please start a new thread for an issues pertaining to how AMG is organized or feel free to send me a pm.
I was going to wait a bit before starting this post. However, since the question has already been posed, here we go.
Without a doubt, the most difficult task of any AMG is deciding upon the location. Every destination has positive and negative qualities. Unfortunately, no matter how hard we try, our group is too diverse and spread out out over vast distances to please everyone.
With that said, planning for next years AMG has begun and choice of destinations have been narrowed down. In all fairness to those who attended AMG this year, they were given the honor of narrowing down our choices for AMG 2009.
AMG 2009 will be held in...
Boston or Chicago
Please do your due diligence in researching the 2 choices above and clearly cast your vote below. You may also include your reason for the city you choose. Voting will continue for a month or until there is a clear winner.
To make the tally of votes easy, please limit your discussion in this thread to the topic at hand.[/i]

Chicago would be my first choice. Though I'm fine with either.
RAB
-
Boston for the reason mentioned in the prior thread.
-
Thom and I cast our votes for Chicago.
Ric
-
The Davids cast two votes for Boston.
-
I vote for Boston for the sole selfish reason that I have never been there - but Chicago is full of awesomeness, so I will be pleased as punch with either location.
-
Chicago
-
Definately Chicago.....Been to Boston many times would like something different...
Nick
-
I will definitely be able to attend either of these 2 locations, but my vote is for Boston. I mean afterall there is only so much one can do at the Cellblock, Eagle and Bijou Theater in Chicago. ;)

boston in the fall

Boston

Hubby, Mini, and i all vote Boston.
Mum (who exits singing The Pirates who Don't do Anything's famous hit..."and I've never been to Boston in the fall...")
-
1- Chicago
2- Boston
Either one would be great, I can even take Amtrack to Boston.
Jody :)

Boston

Both are great places...although hotels in both cities may be quite expensive. I am curious what we may work out. Boston does allow for the possibility of an after or before visit to Provincetown.....
ever so slightly in favor of Boston (but would be perfectly fine with Chicago...I can actually drive there!)

Chicago , I lived there for many years so I have friends that I can stay with and be a cheap SOB .
-
;D
Chicago is my vote
Can some one tell me more about this AMG. What is the function of this group and so forth. I apologize for my ignorance about it.
-
Wow, if it was Boston I would be able to show up. So uh. Yeah.
-
Well, I like both choices and there is a very definite chance of my being able to make it this year. Yeah!
My vote is Boston.
I lived and worked in and around Boston for many years (I grew up in RI, my partner Sid grew up 20 mins outside Boston) - so feel free to pick my brain.
Mike

My vote is Boston, since I can drive there. And I might even join you all -- my first AMG!!
-
I would love to go to my first AMG! I've never been to either one but I sure do love those Boston accents!
So.....Boston!
-
Boston, cause I've never been there.
Is Salem nearby?
Truly, I would be happy with either location.
I plan to Amtrak it this time, so I can bring all the damn luggage I want!
HUGS,
Mark
-
Mark...
I think the Amtrak is a great idea. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe we can meet up in Chicago?
robert

Mark...If we go to Salem, we may have to finally burn you as a male witch (warlock???)...After all these centuries, it's time we got around to business!!! ;)
AND WATCH YOUR STEP!!!
Jody ;)

Chicago would be my preference.
Cheers,
Henry

Boston
I hope I can make it in 2009 !

Hello Everyone:
WOW! How great is it to see so many members voting for either CHICAGO ;D or Beantown >:(.
Whatever location is eventually chosen is fine with me.
I do have to share a bit of inside information though. (And you didn't hear this from me, o.k.?)
(Promise?)
Well alright then here goes.
I have it on very good authority that in the off chance the current trend for Boston is reversed, then a certain goat herding, alpaca raising, pig spoiling, great grandmother (not mentioning any names mind you ::)), will be performing this number at the Meet and Greet.

Now remember this is hush hush and not intended to influence the outcome in anyway. ;)

Will it be possible for us to have a date by November? Reason I ask is I have to bid for my 2009 vacation around the 2nd week of November and I really want to see everyone next year.
sorry for deviating from topic

Rab's vote is included in the numbers above but somehow got cut off when I copied and pasted the pivot table into the post.
Just in case though I'll throw another vote at Chicago and call it at...
Boston 26
Chicago 14
Boston still ahead by a considerble amount. So again, if no one objects, AMG 2009 will be held in Boston.

BOSTON IT IS!
I guess this means i don't get to show off and sing "Chicago Illinois" after all , I had the dress and everything all ready..oh well it's your loss... ;D
For those who have no idea what I'm talking about ...see RAB's post #35

I voted for Chicago because I went there once in college and loved it...however, when RAB mentioned "lobster" it took me back...back to the late 1960s, when I lived near Boston and I developed a taste for my favorite food--LOBSTER!
YAY FOR LOTSA LOBSTER!!! I may have to eat it every day while we're there!!
-
Hi friends,
The vote looks very good. Thom and I are on board. We both have some old haunts there. Now we have to check if they are still there. You know, things change over time. The piano bar at Delmonico's Grill. Jimmy's Harborside. Best lobster I have ever had (sorry RAB who doesn't know what he's missing). The Commons is a must see landmark. And RAB, thanks for the Cheers theme song.
Now let's hope we can find a local Ambassador to help us from their end.
More later. Til then, love and hugs, R&T

I don't even mind that milky New England clam chowder (although of course it's not even on par with tomato based Manhattan clam chowder) so I'll adjust ;)...I've only been there once for a concert so I didn't get to see much of Boston so I look forward to that and I can even take Amtrak instead of having to fly which is an ordeal unto itself already. See you next year and don't forget to pahk yah cahr in Hahvad yahd (or something like that!)
Jody ;)
-
Definately, Boston, for me ;D
-
O.K., so if we're going to Boston, I couldn't help but wonder why in the heck it was called "Bean Town". Apparently it has nothing to do with whether beans are grown there, but instead has to do with "Boston Baked Beans". Go figure. :)

I voted for Chicago, but Boston is a great city and so much history!
We can even take the train to Salem for a day trip!

pozattitude,
Salem sounds like a great side trip. But your have to sport that sexy goatee and black cowboy hat. Hot damn man!

I voted for Boston because I had never been there. So, this can be a real adventure for me.
History, lobster, scenic sites, lobster, a trip to Salem, more seafood, sounds good to me.
And I like Boston baked beans too!
RAB will just have to eat beans and leave leave lobster to me ,,, er, us!
Even better, I can take Amtrak to Boston. Even better, as far as I'm concerned. Seeing the country by train, visiting historic Boston, going to historic Salem.
OK, I'm excited already and its a year away!
HUGS,
Mark
