Am i Infected
« on: July 21, 2013, 10:24:20 pm »
Hello, last september i slept with a girl. it was the first time i ever had sex. i slipped my penis in her a few times without a condom and then put a condom on. the condom later broke but i did not ejaculate. about 2 1/2 to 3 months later, i experienced flu like symptoms. granted the flu was going around in my county. i did not think of hiv at the time, but now im scared to death. i was 16. i have taken the oraquick test twice and i believe i am negative, but i am scared. am i infected? i am scared i read the test wrong or something

Hi Chem , The situation you describe was a low risk situation but that doesn't make it a no risk one , so you did the right thing in testing . The window period for testing is 6 weeks past exposure and again at 3 months to confirm the results .

If you are not sure about your test results the best thing to do is go to a clinic or testing center and have a person trained in HIV testing administer your test . Its not a good idea for us to try and interpret an HIV test over the net from a pic . It may be you are reading the test correctly but your anxiety is causing you to have doubts , so if you are uneasy go get a test from a professional and put your mind at ease .

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

i have pictures of the oraquick test if that would help, but i dont know how to get them on here.

I took the liberty of removing this post. You only have three free posts before you have to take out a membership.

Also, there is no need for you to post a photo of your test result.

The testing window for HIV is three months. You tested negative at the appropriate time. You are absolutely HIV negative.

Please remember to wear a condom in the future for penetrative vaginal and anal sex and you will avoid HIV.

"Many people, especially in the gay community, turn to oral sex as a safer alternative in the age of AIDS. And with HIV rates rising, people need to remember that oral sex is safer sex. It's a reasonable alternative."

thank you so much for the help. Like i said, the test looked negative. but i believe my anxiety caused me to believe otherwise! so in your opinion no further testing should be done?

Chem,

If getting tested by a professional is the only thing that will put your mind at rest, then by all means do it. You can find a testing center near you by putting your zip code into poz.com's Health Services Directory.

You need to understand that while your risk for hiv infection was very low, you were at risk for other, MUCH more easily transmitted STIs. Some of these other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to get tested. For example, untreated gonorrhea and/or chlamydia can cause infertility and arthritis. Chlamydia is VERY prevalent in your age group. Untreated syphilis will eventually cause death.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

It really is that simple!

i have now been tested at the health department for my encounter 10 months ago. i tested negative. i have tested negative on 2 oraquick tests, and now a rapid hiv blood test at the health department. I still just cannot shake the feeling that i could possibly have HIV. if i have it, i want to be treated immediately to prolong my life. i know i am probably over reacting, but i just cannot shake the thought. it has a vice grip on me. please help. it is taking over my everyday life. i wake up thinking about it and go to bed thinking about it. everything just seems pointless because i am scared i have this disease and i am not doing a thing about it.

Please do not start another thread , post all of your concerns here in your original thread . If you have trouble finding your thread go to your profile and select show own post and it will take you here .

You are HIV negative so HIV isn't your problem . If you cant accept the fact that you do not have HIV then its time to seek professional help from a psychologist or therapist .

I wish you the best of luck but there is little we can do for you other than the guidance we have already provided .
