Cysts in the perineum?
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:14:36 pm »
Hi everybody, I have a question for all you medical experts out there.

I have two small hard cysts in the perineum area (this is behind the scrotum). They are not part of the skin, I can feel them in the underlying tissue. They move somewhat from side to side when I manipulate them, and there is no pain or discomfort whatsoever.

Does anyone have these too, or does anyone have any knowledge what these may be? I will be seeing my urologist next week, so hopefully he'll be able to give me a diagnosis, but I was hoping for a "hey don't worry about it that is normal" from someone here in the meantime, so I can sleep better! Thanks everybody. J.

Well, I really doubt it's anything to do with HIV so don't worry about it in that respect.  Obviously it's an infection so it needs to be taken care of.

I wouldn't lose sleep over it AT ALL (unless you're in pain and can't move! :)

Thanks. Yes, I'm pretty sure it's not hiv related. My concern (ahhh paranoia) is cancer....as far as an infection I doubt it. One of the cysts (if that is what they are) has been there for a few months. It's only now that I found the second one that I decided to have it checked out. And yeah I know I know I should have it checked before. But I will do so now! So, anyone else with these? Thx. J.

Hi J,

I get cysts from time to time - but I must say I never had one on my perineum. While cysts like the ones you describe are most often benign and nothing to worry about (or necessarily have removed) it's always best to have them check out by a doctor.

I always do and so far, they've never been a problem or needed to be removed. Some I still have, others went away on their own (absorbed back into the body) and the one I had on my earlobe burst of it's own accord one fine day. It wasn't infected, it was just a white substance - I forget the name of it but it's made up of the oils found naturally in the skin.

Good luck with yours!

Ann

Check with your doctor but I have one in the same area that I have had for going on 16 years or so. Had scans, etc... Drs. have said it was nothing to worry about and that it was likely a small amount of fat (smaller than a pea) that had dislodged from another area and settled and attached to that area. Like I said, had it for a number of years and it has never gotten any bigger or smaller. It has been virtually unnoticeable to others.

Like others said, those are probably just sebaceous cysts. They are  usually benign and a scan would confirm.

Here is link that explains more:

I have had many such cysts for years and years. Always benign.

Have had one on my scalp which might be consuming my memory disc and if I'm write about that it would explain A LOT these days.

It's always good to check them out with your doc as others have suggested.

Awaiting the results of your checkup in the firm expectation that all is well with your bumps.

I have had sebaceous cysts on my scrotum.  Sometimes they would be slightly painful every time I sat down; I would have to adjust my "package" all the time.  Doctor wouldn't touch them for fear of spreading.  Dermatologist advised not surgically removing them and said to apply wet hot compresses.  So I'd wet a washcloth, heat it in the microwave for a very short period to as hot as I could stand, and sit naked at my computer with the wet hot compress against my balls.  Wet, heat, and repeat.  Wet, heat, and repeat.  It worked.  They're gone.
