Am I Paranoid ?

I had a risk situation about 10 months ago, insertive vaginal sex without protection, 3 months after that I went to a local STD clinic and took a finger prick test, VIKIA VIH 1 2, the result was non reactive, so I went on with my life. The problem is that after 6 months of exposure I developed a penile infection and possibly prostatitis ( I had not had any type of sex after the exposure). Past January, about 9 months after exposure, I had my annual check up, so I asked my GP to include a full STD check up in my labs, everything came out negative (the HIV test performed at the clinic was a 4th generation CMIA test)  and everything else was within normal parameters, both my GP and Urologist reassured me that I was HIV negative and my symptoms were not indicative of an HIV infection, although immuno depressed people are more prone to this type of infections, 2 negative tests after the window period were conclusive and no further testing was needed.
Despite this I still have doubts, my main worry is that I am infected with a rare strain or that my body hasn’t produced antibodies and I will be get very sick before I can start proper treatment.  I’m seeing a psychiatrist to help me cope with this issues already, but I still need some reassurance. Is there any foundation to my worries or I am just being paranoid?

I would like to thank all for any answers and for the great service this forum provides to the community, it was a great help to know that are people thriving in life with HIV, while I was waiting for my results.

You really are HIV negative and can put your fear that you are infected away . You do not not have HIV .

The average time to seroconversion is 22 days. Most who are infected will test positive by 6 weeks. For various reasons a small number will take longer and that is why we follow the CDC recommendation to test at 3 months for a conclusive negative result.

If you were HIV positive there is not any doubt what so ever that the test you took would have shown it at 6 weeks and most definitely by 3 months .

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Thank you for the quick response. The rational part of my brain knows and understands the reasons why I am negative, however my subconscious still has some doubts.
Like I said in the first post I may have prostatitis, I have some symptoms but I still don’t have an official diagnosis, I am seeing an urologist, and I am waiting for results to see if there is some bacteria in the prostate, what worries me is that I may have advance HIV (there is a nagging voice in my head constantly saying that I haven’t developed any antibodies and the virus is quickly causing havoc in my immune system) and it’s other bug that is causing my symptoms like CMV, some fungus or HIV itself, I shared my worries with the urologist who said that my bloodwork was normal and I was HIV negative, he seems to think that my symptoms are mainly psychological in nature, he added that something like CMV only causes issues when there is severe damage in the immune system and that is not my case.
Sorry for the rant and thank for the patience, but writing this stuff helps me understand how stupid I am being.

If you were so far gone with HIV as to not produce antibody's you would be a day or two from death and covered from head to toe with open sores and in so much pain you would not be able to even sit up .

HIV has been ruled out ... you do not have HIV so go see your doc and find out what's making you sick .

Thank's again for taking the time to answer my questions.
Unfortunately my chronic prostatitis diagnosis was confirmed and despite not being a serious health issue, it's symptoms are bad  , constant pain, trouble urinating, and so on, the other problem it's that the treatments are not very effective, but I'm working with my Doctor and hopefully I'll get better.

Since this my last free post, I just want thank you all again for the great service that both this site and forum provides, I've learned a lot about HIV in this last few months, read threads that made me cry (both from happiness and sadness) and stories that inspired me to be a stronger and better person.
