HEP. C Treatment ....
« on: January 16, 2013, 07:28:39 am »
I didn't know where to start this thread.
If the admin/mods feel that it shouldn't be here please move it or delete it.

Anyways...
I'm 34 yrs old and i've been co-infected [hep c + hiv] since 1995.
I'm seeing the Hep. C doctor tomorrow to [hopefully] start treatment soon.
I feel an array of mixed feelings at the moment. Anxious, nervous, excited, etc...

I'm genotype 1 but whereas before i only had a 20% chance [so they tell me] i now have a 40/50% chance of getting cleared of it with a new drug added to the mix. That makes me a bit more excited [if you can call it that] about it. At least now i can go through this horrible treatment thinking i got a real chance of being cured of hep.c.

6 years ago when i had my first liver biopsy, the results were "Mild Scaring" and the LFT levels were "OK", but my LFT levels have gone up in the last 2 years.
Had another biopsy a few months ago and even though the changes weren't too significant compared to my first one, the scaring got a tiny bit worse. [Sorry about my lack of technical know-how]

The thing i'm worried about it's the anti-depressants most people take while on treatment. My family doctor prescribe me Oxactin but i'm still on 25 ml of Methadone and even though i've had that mix [anti-depressant + methadone] a couple of times in the past [for a very small period of time], i hear it's not a good mix at all and that people have died because of it. The anxiety i developed in the last 2 years doesn't help one bit. Makes more anxious about the mix.

I'm thinking about starting the treatment without anti-depressants. My state of mind is decent at the moment [apart from anxiety] and i think i can do it. But could be wrong as i've never had Hep.C treatment before and the treatment goes on for quite a few weeks.

Has anyone here had the hep.c treatment without anti-depressants ??

I wanna quick Meth really bad, that way i could take the Oxactin without any worries, but i don't wanna do it too fast in case my demons get the better of me like it happen in the past when i stopped meth faster then i should've done. I battled with addiction since i was 15 and i want to it right this time.

PS - For everyone that likes numbers/stats/etc, my Doctor said the Hep.C treatment costs the NHS £32k here in the UK.

Thanks
RR
