Meditation to try
« on: November 20, 2006, 12:00:40 am »
Hi everyone,

This popped into my head today and thought I'd pass this along.  DISCLAIMER:  This is not meant to be used in replace of your current medical care.  Do this along with your current treatment if you are on any.[/b][/i][/u]

Here's a meditation to do:

Light a white candle, your favorite incense, make sure nothing or no one will disturb you, turn off the t.v. or radio or even the computer.  Unplug the phone or turn it off.  I suggest sitting in an upright position, both feet on the floor, arms on your legs with palms facing up.  Set a timer for 15 minutes.

Take a deep breath in on the count of 4, hold it for a count of 4, release it on a count of 4.  Do this 3 times.  Try to empty your mind, try not to think of anything, if you wander just bring your mind back to nothingness.

Now say the following:

My body is winning the battle against HIV.  I am getting stronger and healthier.  My immune system is disolving the HIV out of my body.  May the universe absorb the energy of the HIV, taking it out of my body and put the energy to better use.  Replacing it with healing energy, leaving me whole, complete and healthy.

Repeat this over and over again and until the timer goes off.  Do this 3 times a week.  Or when you are feeling overly stressed.

If you try this, please let me know how you felt afterwards.

Love and Light,

Rev. Michael

Hey Michael,

You were reading my thoughts for sharing a meditation technique. Here is another one to share as well. It does wonders for the inner self.

Brief Body Scanning Relaxation

1. As you breathe in, scan your face, neck, shoulders,
    and arms for tension.

2. As you breathe out, let your muscles relax, and allow
    the tension to slide away.

3. As you breathe in, observe your chest and stomach for tension.

4. As you breathe out, allow your muscles to relax,
    letting any tension slide away.

5. As you breathe in, search for tension in your legs,
    hips, and feet.

6. As you breathe out, feel any remaining tension flow
from your body. Continue breathing deeply for one to five
    minutes, enjoying the overall feeling.

It is very rewardnig when you take a few minutes out of your day to do this.

Make the BEST of each Day!

Loving Kindness - A Meditation

Stephen Levine

To be read slowly to a friend or silently to oneself.

Sitting comfortably, allow the attention to come gradually to the breath.
The breath coming and going all by itself deep within the body.
Take a few moments to allow the attention to gather with the even rhythm of the breath.
Turning gently within, begin to direct, toward yourself, care for your own well-being.
Begin to look on yourself as though you were your only child. Have mercy on you.
Silently in the heart say, ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Just feel the breath breathing into the heart space as we relate to ourselves with kindness and care.
Allow the heart, silently, to whisper the words of mercy that heal, that open. ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Allow yourself to be healed.
Whispering to yourself, send wishes for your own well-being: ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Repeat gently with each in-breath into the heart, ‘May I be free from suffering.’
With each out-breath, ‘May I be at peace’.
With the next in-breath, ‘May I be free from suffering’.
With the following out-breath, ‘May I be at peace’.
Repeat these words slowly and gently with each in-breath, with each out-breath. Not as a prayer but as the extending of a loving care to yourself.
Notice whatever limits this love, this mercy, this willingness to be whole, to be healed. ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Continue with this rhythm, this deepening of merciful joy and loving kindness drawn in with each breath, expanding with each exhalation. ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Let the breath continue naturally, as mercy for yourself, your only child, for this being within.
Though at first these may only feel like words echoing from the mind, gently continue. There can be no force here. Force closes the heart.
Let the heart receive the mind in a new tenderness and mercy. ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Each breath deepening the nurturing warmth of relating to oneself with loving kindness and compassion.
Each exhalation deepening in peace, expanding into the spaciousness of being, developing the deep patience that does not wait for things to be otherwise but relates with loving kindness to things as they are. ‘May I be free from suffering. May I be at peace.’
Allow the healing in with each breath. Allow your true spacious nature.
Continue for a few breaths more this drawing in, this opening to, loving kindness.
Relating to yourself with great tenderness, sending well-being into your mind and body, embrace yourself with these gentle words of healing.

Now gently bring to mind someone for whom you have a feeling of warmth and kindness. Perhaps a loved one or teacher or friend. Picture this loved one in your heart.
With each in-breath whisper to him or her, ‘May you be free from suffering. May you be at peace’.
With each breath draw that loved one into your heart, ‘May you be free from suffering’.
With each out-breath filling them with your loving kindness, ‘May you be at peace’.
With the next inhalation drawing their heart closer to yours, ‘May you be free from suffering'.
With the following out-breath extending to the loved one a wish for his well-being, ‘May you be at peace’.
Continue to breathe the loved one into your heart, whispering silently to yourself, to them, ‘May you be free from suffering. May you be at peace'.
Continue the gentle breath of connection, the gentle wish for their happiness and wholeness.
Let the breath be breathed naturally, softly, lovingly into the heart, coordinated with your words, with your concentrated feelings of loving kindness and care. ‘May you be freed of any suffering. May you know the deepest levels of peace.'
Send them your love, your compassion, your care.
Breathing them in and through your heart. ‘May you be free from suffering. May you know your deepest joy, your greatest peace.'

And as you sense them in your heart, sense this whole world that wishes so to be healed, to know its true nature, to be at peace.
Note to yourself, ‘Just as I wish to be happy so do all sentient beings.’
And in your heart with each in-breath, with each out-breath, whisper, ‘May all beings be free of suffering. May all beings be at peace’.
Let your loving kindness reach out to all beings as it did to your loved one, sensing all beings in need of healing, in need of the peace of their true nature.
‘May all beings be at peace. May they be free of suffering.’ ‘May all sentient beings, to the most recently born, be free of fear, free of pain. May all beings heal into their true nature. May all beings know the absolute joy of absolute being.’ ‘May all beings everywhere be at peace. May all beings be free of suffering.’
The whole planet like a bubble floating in the ocean of your heart. Each breath drawing in the love that heals the world, that deepens the peace we all seek. Each breath feeding the world with the mercy and compassion, the warmth and patience that quiets the mind and opens the heart.
‘May all beings be free from suffering. May all beings be at peace.’
Let the breath come softly. Let the breath go gently. Wishes of well-being and mercy, of care and loving kindness, extended to this world we all share. ‘May all beings be free of suffering. May all beings dwell in the heart of healing. May all beings be at peace.’

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to bring up an important factor which involves your meditation experience. During meditation you will encounter a series of thoughts that will go through your mind. This is called "The Babbler".

In order to achieve a maximum benefit from your meditation, you will want to do what you can to get "The Babbler" to become quiet. If a thought comes to your mind as you are meditating, say to yourself, "quiet" this is my time and continue to meditate.

It is also an excellent idea to select a calming and relaxing track of your choice to administer with your meditation. Through this, it helps your mind center itself as the right and the left side of your brain becomes balanced with each other.

Enjoy your meditating experience!

These sound great.  I will try them.  What happens if you start to fall asleep?  I find that wen I tried to meditate before that I would just en up falling asleep.

Hey TSW,

If you fall asleep the first few times, it is ok. You will just have a good nap. The BEST recommended times to meditate is either (1) one hour after you awaken or (2) two to (3) three hours before you go to bed,

The better time to meditate depends on you and what you are comfortable with.

Enjoy your meditating experience!

Thanks, Eldon. I will have to start again. I usually try when I'm getting ready for bed but my damn Babbler doesn't know when to shut up so I end up thinking about every lil thing and eventually fall asleep. I don't know why I'm procrastinating because I have a lot of pent up negativity I need to dump, sort of emotional baggage. But I will do it...

Hey Queen,

True enough "The Babbler" is a big distraction during your meditation. You have to train it to become quiet when you are spending this quality time within yourself. The first few times it may get a little frustrating but do not give up. Each time you meditate it gets easier to shut 'The Babbler" up while you meditate.

You are more than welcome. This is what we are all here for as we walk on our journey in this life.

I did meditate before I went to bed last night. The Babbler sure enough made an appearance but I quickly silenced her. I also followed one of the meditations you posted and by the time I was done I was very relaxed. I also worked on getting rid of that baggage I told you about too.

Hey Queen,

It is important that when you begin your meditation session, as you breathe in you want to think about what has been bothering you. As you breathe out you will want to let it go. Do this about (3) three times before you begin your meditation session.

During your meditation you will want to be completely relaxed, a clear mind, and nothing to distract you as well.

Glad to see some people trying the meditations.  In a rather short time you will definitely notice a difference.

I'll be posting others shortly for people to try.

That blabber sure can be bothersome.  After awhile the blabber will not show up as often, if at all.

Another good one. It only takes less then a minute.

Whenever you have to stop  in front of a red trafficlight, you can do the following ( instead of swearing that is)

: Look at the light and take a deep breath through your nose. Then breathe out all the way trough your mouth.
Repeat when there is time left until the light turns green.
Simple and fast.

Bet that you will never be mad over a red light again?

Hey Hermie,

That is a good one. In a sense, we all do meditate in some form or fashion.

Enjoy your meditating experience!

Fully agree, I went out this weekend and was amazed to see so many old friends and the response I got from all who said they can see such a differrence in my attitude and the physical part as to how great my body is looking and it was such an ego boost to myself. See there is a change and people do see the confidence one have gained.
