No, it doesn't mean a "worsening condition."  Have you never had night sweats ever before?  It could just be HIV infection in general, or it could be another infection like tuberculosis or hepatitis, etc.

OR it could just be extreme anxiety.  Could be a lot of things -- why don't you consult your doctor for advice.  But yes, they generally come and go when you have them.

Biz.

Not sure where you live, but it could be the the summer heat and humidity (southern US).  I have been awaken when my A/C was set for 75 not 68 when I sleep.  Plus too many covers make me sweat.  Just another view.

It could simply be the summer.. in San Diego the temperatures have gone from the 50s at night to the 70s, maybe your place is too hot? Are you feeling okay during the day? You said no temp, did you take your temp at the time of the night sweats?

I sweat at night unless my A/C is set to 68.  Othwerise I sweat.  Nothing like the drenching sweats I had when I had PCP.

I don't get them often but have woke up a few nights all soaked and in a cold room.  Having read stories of other forum members, I have it pretty good as I have never had to change the bed in the middle of the night.

Do not recall ever having a discussion with medical personnel re: night sweats but have heard about it years before actually having it happen to me in Living With HIV support groups.  From personal experiences, I really do not believe it is caused or controlled by the number of T-cells as I had less than 100 and did not have sweats.  At this time, I have about 395 T-cells, have an undetectable VL and those numbers have rarely changed over the past 7 years.  Have the best day

I had 'em pretty bad prior to starting Atripla, but haven't had any since.  It didn't matter if it was winter or summer (with the A/C, of course), I'd sweat.  It was miserable - I'd wake up and go to the bathroom, get a drink of water, anything for a few minutes.  Once I got up and moved around, they seemed to go away for a while.  I generally slept on a big towel to soak up the sweat.  It sucked big time.

Hi Bimazek

Night sweats seem to be a common problem for those of us living with HIV, it's uncomfortable to say the least but medically I don't think it's a cause for great concern.

Anxiety and stress can also lead to night sweats, so if you are really worried about this then talk to your Doctor.

Awhile ago now I suddenly developed problems with insomnia, I just couldn't sleep, a short time later I started having night sweats, my Doc put this down to the fact I wasn't sleeping properly and started me on sleep medication..within a matter of days the night sweats stopped and I haven't had any since.

Everyone is different I know and  night sweats can happen for a variety of reasons...it may well just be the weather, but you won't know for sure until you talk to someone..so don't let it go on for too long before going to see your Doctor.

Hugs

I didn't start having night sweats until I started taking Sustiva. Now, it is an almost nightly occurrence.

I agree with Mark on this one. Since I've been on Sustiva, I have night sweats almost everynight. At first I thought it was the "change" then I relized that I'm male ;D so it has to be the Sustiva. Crank up the fans and A/C honey!!

I notice i get them more often than i used to....but i live in a hot island and the window unit AC works better some nights than others so it could just be that....

i also noticed that without fail if someone is sleeping in the bed next to me and i will always end up sweating due to their body heat....which usually causes me to end up on the edge of the bed trying to get away from them haha

PR - LOL!   ;D
I know what you mean.  My partner has the following routine.  Turn floor fan on to turbo speed....get in bed (a good thing), then throw the comforter over me so I wake up soaked and ready to kick him out of bed.  He's just is not happy unless it is 60 below.

God, I hope SF in Sept will be cool at night or there may be war of the sheets!  :D

baby wipes, hypoallergenic and sensitive type, kept in fridge, really help to cool you down. there are also special pillows, made for menopausal women, that allow better air flow. look at all the products for hot sweats in menopause...can help...just NOTHING  with st johns wort in it.
keeping exactly to med times helps...even a ten minute difference with some can cause sweats
pm me if you want details of products...promise not an agent...just a girl!

Another thing I have found to help.  It is called a "chillow".  You place it in your pillow case and it keeps you cool as it is a little bladder type thing you fill with water and it works like a radiator to keep you cool.  This helped me tons when I was sweating like a pig ..... it also allowed me to set the A/C to 68 instead of 65 which is leading to incredibly sized electric bills.  Anyway, you can get a "chillow" at the Discovery store.

I have them nightly, some nights worse than others...there have been nights when I have had to change the sheets and take a quick shower...right now, it's because of the infection I just battled but, before...who knows...it's probably this damned virus letting us know it's still here!

Im assuming night sweats are common among HIV+ people and HIV- people because last night i was sleeping with my friend and he drenched the bed with sweat and i was fine.....im sure its more common among hiv+ people but i dont think its anything to worry about because it happens to many people regardless of status....

Another little trick i've learnt is to use one of those wine cooler collar thinks that you put in freezer, then round wine to keep it chilled. Wrap it once cooled in a towel and use it on your feet....bloody heaven. Works on neck as well but easier to kick out of bed if it goes soggy if its lower down.....waiting for comments now, but you know what i mean!
hope they calming down a bit

Night sweats,

HIV increases body temperature - like any infection.  Having HIV is a bit like having a chronic flu, hence the fatigue, sweats etc.

This can improve with an undetecable viral load.

There's lots you can do:

Cotton sheets, cotton pyjamas.  Keep spare PJ's handy in case you need to change.

Use an absorbent underlay - I have a cotton blanket under my sheets - comfy and cooling.

When it's hot sleep with a fan on,  but don't have it on too high.  You might get too cool and wrap yourself in covers while you are asleep - making you hotter - making you sweat more.

Your CD4's are fine - they go up and down all the time.  They can even change depending on the time of day.

take care.

I know a few guys who use aspirin, they say it works well.  Of course you would need to speak with your doc, but this might be helpful.

if aspirin works for the night sweats then it must also be doing something for the inflam. of the virus
sometimes i feel that dr.s havent even studied the basics of what we are going thru

sweats is a sign of active infection, sometimes the virus breaks free from immune system and then over a period of days or weeks the immune system stops it again, by creating custom fighter cells to the new slightly changed version

aspirin would help because of this process

Rather than trying to find a remedy to your night sweats on here without knowing their causes, which can be multiple (see http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=57394), why don't you just go see your doctor, who can ask the appropriate questions and do the relevant tests, then let us know what he said ?

I take it, this your opinion and not fact.
That's generally the case
