Since I Feel Pretty Good I've Tackled A Project
« on: October 19, 2007, 04:09:12 am »

Adding on a two car garage and a breezeway. Then have to put on the new roof over the front porch and then apply new vinyl siding.

Rodney,

I didn't realize that carpentry/construction was one of your many talents!  It looks great so far....

Kudos to you for digging into a project!   As someone else mentioned, a "project" for me would be cleaning out my bookshelves....

That looks like a good project for your neck of the woods.  I would never tackle that down here, else I would get a major case of Swamp Ass1.
It's still in the high 80's to low 90's down here.

Nadine, when they issued 100 mph winds last night and a tornado watch. I didn't get much sleep. You know I wouldn't stand a chance in my home. Out there they have a basement. I was ready last night to ditch the house and take the dogs and pups with me to my sisters basement. That cardboard box of mine wouldn't make good match sticks with that type of wind. It was fun today putting on the cross rafters over the breezeway. They didn't really want to go where I wanted them to go, but I finally got them in place. Hope to have it all sheeted tomorrow and most the shingles on.

Rab, it's getting insulated and drywall. It also will have heat in the garage and breezeway with A/C added to the breezeway. It's going to have a lot of electric outlets. You can never have enough. There will also be 4 outlets on the outside of the garage and two put in on the front porch. They added another job to the list today. They want one of the chimneys taken completely out and remove a wall that separates the kitchen from the living room.

I thought I better expain something for those that don't know me or where I live. This is not my home, it's my little sister's mother and father in-law's home. I live in a mobile home that is not as near as old or big as this old home where I'm working. These are the people I use to drive for and have been friends with for over 30 years. Thanks Mike for bring that to my attention. Assuming gets me in trouble every time.  :D

Hey Rodney,

The first house I bought was a double wide mobile in a park in Redwood Valley.  The park rent was higher than the loan payment and the seller had lowered the price to $10,000.00 when the realtor called.  We toured, I offered and they accepted.  After move in the realtor called to ask if everything was OK... Of Course, I just can't put a screw in straight and it is frustrating.  The realtor replied, "Soon, you will be screwing everything."  ;D ;D
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.  Have the best day

I think it's all the more impressive now that you mention this.  Do you have a 'crew', are you helping them build, or are you doing it yourself (yikes!)?  Most of my projects reach a stopping point somewhere short of completion!  ;)

David there is two of us. The other guy is their son in law. We should have the roof completed and shingled by tomorrow afternoon. That's if the rain holds off. After the roof is done I don't care if it rains. We have a lot of work that can be done on the inside.

Hey come up and build me a new one too.  For some reason the previous owner of my house had the original garage totally rebuilt.  Looks great, but its built to fit a Model T.  Its a real challenge even to navigate the Crapolier into it  ;D

The construction market is so hot around here that it would be impossible to even find anyone to build me a larger one and I certainly don't have the skills.

Back to the building:  You can always park an ATV in there or use it as a workshop!  Just some creative thinking.  Just when you feel good enough to take on a project......good luck, maybe try  greasing the side doors and squeezing that vehicle in there!

I'm finished for the winter. Still have to install the outside lights. Next spring it's the front porch, unless we have some really nice weather this winter and vinyl the rest of the house this spring.

but i am with you, Rod....put a bar and stuff in it and keep the cars outside.  i'm seeing a personal sports bar kind of thing going on.  pool table, dart board, previously mentioned booze...not at all practical, but a helluva lot of fun.

Roddles, honey, I always knew you were good with your hands!  ;)

You built a building from scratch!  I'm impressed.

I feel like a real loafer. I've been papering the living room with embossed wall paper. Ready to be painted now. I also ordered new windows for the living room, dining room and bedroom.

Hey, if your friends don't want all those nasty leftover bricks from that old fireplace, feel free to drop them in my driveway. I'm sure I could find some use for them.  ;D

HUGS,

I'm finished for the winter. Still have to install the outside lights. Next spring it's the front porch, unless we have some really nice weather this winter and vinyl the rest of the house this spring.

Wow!

You've done well.. congrats :-)

rod...

That's just beautiful.  You certainly don't do anything half-assed do you?  Just the opposite of me....  My slogan:  "Good enough".  Of  course, it's usually not and that's only part of my problem.

Anyway, this is about you and you've done a great job.   And not only does it look good but, my god, man, did you forget something?  You've got AIDS!~!  You're not supposed to be able to do anything like that!

And Mark, I hope you're waiting until next spring to put in those windows.

David there is two of us. The other guy is their son in law. We should have the roof completed and shingled by tomorrow afternoon. That's if the rain holds off. After the roof is done I don't care if it rains. We have a lot of work that can be done on the inside.

Two  :o people did all that, wow

That was pretty fast too  :) Well, in my book: I'm a lollygagger
