Today the rabid right wing party of America (sometimes referrred to as Republicans) reared their ugly head again and rammed through a disgusting provision in the Michigan state legislature limiting union rights for working people, under the riduculous auspices of "right to work" (never has a term been so improperly coined)! Basically the  state legislature in Michigan, dominated by republicans, and having a lying bastard of a republican governor, rammed this legislation through with virtually no debate and no public input (because the crooks knew it would fail at the ballot box). If there was any doubt among anyone about who the Republican Party really cares about, there shouldn't be now. It all started a couple of years ago in Wisconsin, where another luncatic right-wing governor, Scott Walker, tried to limit & destroy union rights.

I am so passionate about this, not just because I come from a long line of proud union members going back to the 1930s, but because it just shows how crazy and out of touch and indeed dangerous the republican party is today. These people must be on crack. I mean, I am old school, and I judge people based on their ACTIONS not their words. Let's look at the Republican's track records. They're against gay rights, women's rights, worker's rights, environmental protections, wage equality, equal pay for equal work, unions, etc etc, the list goes on. They've been hijacked by this far-right wing corporate loving religious fanatics. People forget how things were for workers before unions and basic worker protections came into place in the 1930s..basically, it was like China..people worked their asses off for pennies, with ZERO health care and wage benefits, and ZERO work-safety policies. The Republicans today want to take us back to the 1800s and turn working and middle class people here into the Chinese, who have no dignity and no worker protections. Its disgusting. Unions look out for workers, and hold employers accountable (what a novel concept). Multi-national and greedy corporations like Walmart hate unions and worker's rights so much because they're scared to death people will get dignity and demand fair working conditions and wages, plain & simple!

I hope people will call spade a spade, and the unions need to fight back old-school style, with picket lines, and getting tough when necessary. I am a gay, hiv-positive male, I play by the rules, I work hard, and while I am not yet a member of a union, I hope to be eventually after I have enough time under my belt. Anyone who works for a living knows how hard it is to make ends meet now. I have an education, but due to the terrible economy brought on by a war in Iraq that bankrupted us and Wall Street running wild, I, like many other, have had to find work wherever I can find it.. I hope the Republicans don't completely destroy the basic benefits and worker protections that have been in place for the last 70 years, but it's not looking good.

I guess I need to end my rant on a cautiously positive note..Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I hope the Republicans of today won't keep fooling many more ignorant people with their double talk and lies, and that they will just keep declining and descend into irrelevance. But people especially at the state level need to stop voting for the idiots! Hell, I'm the first to admit I don;t agree with the democrats on everything, but I sure as hell am smart enough to vote for the people who I know have my back when the chips are down. I live in a very red state, and I hope the GOP don't try and mess with the unions here. If they do, I'll be first in line leading the protest.
