Hi, guys, i have a question....if i have 2 mins oral sex with a guy and i have a sore throat, and that guy has unknown hiv status, how much chance i will be infected too? thank you.

but i read in the news that precum can contain virus and sore throat will increase the chances....will PEP decrease the chance of infection? thank you

Oral sex does not meet the guidelines to prescribe PEP. You didn't have a risk. We have serocouples on these forums that have protected vaginal sex and unprotected oral and have for years and not a one has contracted HIV.

No, having a sore throat doesn't add to the non risk.

If you would have had a risk I would say no, but since you didn't have a risk I'll say yes.

Today i developed some rash (itchy) on my right butt....is it hiv rash? if not, how will hiv rash look like?

Sky, you did not have a risk. Any kind of signs or symptoms you are having are unrelated to HIV. If you have a concern see your doctor.

sky - i dont know what nonsense you have been reading but there is no such thing as 'hiv rash'

and even if there were such a thing, you wouldnt have it seeing as the incident you described is no risk

Sky, I think you might be referring to the flat rash which some people experience during ARS at approximately two to three weeks after an exposure to HIV. It's usually on the torso and limbs IF it's going to show up. It is not itchy, appears and then disappears.

Lest you now go bananas with this information, I'll also say that what you described -- a very brief bit of sucking dick, (and presumably without ejaculation), is something we don't consider a risk for transmission. There have been some undocumented reports of transmission via sucking. In the end they have turned out to have been based on incomplete information with other activities involved. On the other hand there is much more evidence from longterm stuides of sero-discordant couples with lots of protected intercourse and lots of unprotected mutual oral resulting in none of the sero-negative partners becoming infected.

I don't see any cause for concern on your part about this incident in terms of HIV.

If your rash persists you should discuss it with your doctor.

Hi, i have another question...what if the guy has chlamidia or gonorhea or herpes...and plus hiv, i heard that hiv can co-transmit with those virus and bacteria...is it true..?

The co-existing additional STIs only become a concern during unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Use condoms for either of these activities and you won't have to worry about it.

Use condoms for intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

hi, i have another question....during the acute hiv infection, i read something about the swollen lymph nodes....is it all lymph nodes have to be swollen or just one or two swollen? does it accompany with fever? thank you

Sky,

Lymph nodes swell for all sorts of reasons, not just in response to infections. One thing that will make them swell is prodding them constantly. You've not been prodding and poking at your nodes, now have you?

Many people experience no symptoms at all during the "acute phase" of HIV infection which is why we say symptoms mean nothing. Since you've not done anything that would have exposed you to the virus in the first place it's a moot point. If you're feeling unwell, talk to your doctor.

You don't have HIV.

If your armpit is bothering you, take it to a doctor. It's nothing to do with hiv.
