Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Hi all... I'm tom and I'm a bit worried... I'll try to keep it as short as possible:

timeline:

13 december: visit a high class escort (condom broke, +- 5 min unprotected vaginal sex , I also had a little injury on my penis from being too rough I think)
*asked her about her "status". She told me she was clean and gets checked often.
16-17 : went partying
18-19 december: was sick from too much drinking (vomiting, so didn't leave the house)
20 december: Started getting a soar troat
21 december: troat got worse + fever + stiff neck --> went to see a doctor, told me I had faryngitis and gave me antibiotics.
22 - 24 december: continued to have those symptoms
25 december: fever gone, other symptoms a lot better...
26december-29 january: feeling healthy... allthough having occasional night sweats.
30january - 10 february: Swollen lymp node in my armpit... been there for about 2 weeks, it's finally gone.

Summarized: aprox 7 days after having "unprotected (max 5 min) sex" I started having "flu-like" symptoms. The thing that botters me the most is that I had no Human contact between the 17th of december and the 20th (didn't leave the house) and I still got sick... All these things togetter worry me because the last time I remember getting sick is like 3 years ago :-/ and now it happened right after I was possibly exposed. 

I'll get myself tested at the 3 month mark, but i'm really worried. Do you guys think my symptoms could have been signs of an acute HIV infection?

Your risk was on the lower end of the scale, but it was a risk and you should get tested.

In the ten years since I have been doing risk assessment on these forums I have never seen an insertive (male) partner test positive after a condom break during vaginal sex. I really do think you are going to be fine, but as a precaution you should test at three months.

1 follow-up question:
The flu-like symptoms I had all started around day 8 and lasted till approx day 12 after my possible exposure...
Now i've read a LOT (cause I'm really worried) and some sources say ars symptoms only occur as early as 2 weeks after infection... other sources say they can occur after 1 week... So I'm kinda confused on what to believe and what not. Do you guys have any thoughts on the time it takes for ars symptoms to develop on average? If they cannot occur before 2 weeks, it would help me calm my mind a lot because mine completely vanished before the 2nd week. ( I know it's not a 100% guarantee I'm not infected, and I'll still get tested, but it's driving me crazy atm.)
