HIV FROM SEX WORKER
« on: June 05, 2006, 04:40:49 am »
Hello.
Just thought I would post my results in the new look forum.
I had the test after 8 weeks and it came back negative.
Again, this is a shock to me if not anyone else. Although not 100% conclusive, I am taking this as conclusive.
I am very fortunate to be given another chance.
Thank you.

China,

I read your thread from the old forums. You reported unprotected sex with a sex worker as the risk. You're right that your 8 week test is very promising. The vast majority of people who are going to test positive do so at the 6 week point. I'm pleased that you understand that an 8 week test is not 100% conclusive, nevertheless, I would expect you to test negative at 12 or 13 weeks.

I note that you intend to take your 8 week result as conclusive, whether or not you test again is up to you.

Although I would expect you to test negative again at 13 weeks, HIV is never something to guess about. Like Matty, I recommend that you follow the CDC's policy of testing at 13 weeks for a conclusive answer.

All but the very smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so with 4-6 weeks after an exposure to the virus, but personally I don't like leaving any doubts where HIV status is concerned.

Cheers,

Yeah,
I do not mean that I am guessing about it, just that mentally I am not going to let it affect me. Any sex from now until 13 weeks (one month away) will be protected. No condom no sex- simple. My glands are still swollen and I have been ill again recently but I am not going to assume this is HIV related and stress about it.
Thank you.

And any intercourse AFTER your test at 13 weeks, (and hopefully a negative result), should also include your using a latex condom everytime.

Good luck with your test.

Uh oh again.

Just when things seemed to be getting better and the tone of my messages was more optimistic I got ill- badly.

Shortly after my last post I had pain in my throat which soon became extreme. This came with fever and VERY swollen glands (I couldn't turn my neck). Three days and nights without food, sleep, sweating with fever and tonsilits. Doctor gave me antibiotics after day one which did nothing to help my pus saturated tonsils. I doubled the dosage and started necking 8 every three hours. Still nothing besides sharp abdominal pain. I went to hospital again on Sunday where they were very concerned and admitted me to the ward. I was put on an IV drip to get new super strong anti biotics into me fast. Now two days after that the pain and swelling seems to be subsiding. and I am left wondering, again, WTF is wrong with me.

The tonsils are an important part of the imune system. I have had two severe outbreaks of 'tonsilitis' since my risk. I have tested negative at 8 weeks (albeit that I do not trust the Chinese to have actually carried out the test). I am sick of this. I am getting out of hell on Earth that is China. I have had enough and so has my body. Positive or not I am going back to the UK.

Thank you
