george77,

This vaccine has had wonderful results in earlier trials.  Here is a little history:

http://www.bionorimmuno.com/news2008_phaseIIB.html

A break from ARVs for 31 months seems like a dream, but it happened and in some cases 44 months !

Look at their pipeline --- this vaccine is ready for phase 3. They also have another more powerful one entering phase 2!

The world collaborates !!!

Thankyou to our friends in Norway!

moskimo,

Everything you wanted to know about clinical trials:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clinical_trial

Notice: "Most drugs undergoing Phase III clinical trials can be marketed under FDA norms with proper recommendations and guidelines, but in case of any adverse effects being reported anywhere, the drugs need to be recalled immediately from the market. While most pharmaceutical companies refrain from this practice, it is not abnormal to see many drugs undergoing Phase III clinical trials in the market"

The wait shouldn't be too long if results are good and they apply !

The clinical trial is supposed to be completed July 2010.

Inch,

Is this the same vaccine trial that you started back in May? I think it is. If so, maybe Ann could combine thread with yours.

I'm not actually in the vaccine trial but I guess you mean the other thread started in May? Yeah, it's the same one, maybe Ann can combine them.

I have a question about this vaccine that I hope someone can answer.  My question is, basically, why does it stop working?  All the discussion about it concerns its use as a method of temporary treatment interruption.  The interruption may be 31 months or up to 44 months, but at some point this vaccine stops being effective.  I'm not clear on why this is or why a second treatment would not prolong the effect.

Is this addressed somewhere?
