Share Your Thoughts in the National Survey on Attitudes, Access, and Use of Female Condoms!

The Female Condom (FC) Access Working Group is conducting a survey to determine people’s attitudes, access, and use of female condoms. Female condoms are also referred to as FCs, FC2s, Reality, internal, or receptive partner condoms. Female Condoms are used by men, women, and transpeople for anal and vaginal sex to protect against sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and unplanned pregnancy.  This survey is intended for people of all genders and sexual orientations who have engaged in anal or vaginal sex at least once in the last 12 months. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

Because female condoms are a prevention tool that can be used by diverse individuals, it is important that survey feedback reflects this diversity. We are particularly interested in hearing more from the gay male/MSM community. No identifying information is requested or recorded. Survey results will help the Female Condom Access Working Group to improve community education, availability, and access to female condoms.

Please go to http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FDHG3SX to take the survey.

The Female Condom Access Working Group is comprised of the Chicago Female Condom Campaign, New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Houston Area FC2 Project, San Francisco Department of Public Health, State of New York Department of Health AIDS Institute, and Washington DC Department of Health. Please email jterlikowski@aidschicago.org with any questions.

Please help get the word out about the survey by posting the link to your Facebook profile and sharing it with your networks.

I had a regular playmate a few years back with a huge wang, and he was HIV+ and refused to wear condoms but handily offerred the femidom and we were both happy enough.  Except they are expensive and I've never seen them for free anywhere!

Yes, they are expensive, but many agencies pass them out in the US for free at gay pride events, and ASOs and testers often make them available free. too.

My doctor gives the female condoms out. You have to ask for it though, she doesnt keep them in the big cookie jar with the regular condoms.

I actually had no clue you could use them for anal sex.

I dont find them as sexy as condoms can be.  Good thin condoms in the right size do disappear. I felt like i had a baggie in my ass.  :o  But hey the sex was good and they made it possible.

You all have such generous docs!  Femidoms.  Cialis.  All these fun freebies!

Yes and one of their features is the generous peripheral protection beyond the point of entry, whether anal or vaginal, that's a barrier against STIs, such as herpes.

The image that is in my head right now is so unpleasant and I'm trying to eat my chicken chili.

Therefore, I couldn't imagine ever using one. Sounds awfull.

Oh so here's what you do, finish the chili. Chill. And later on, google female condom. There are tons of vids, pics and illustrations and I think you'll see that once it's in whatever vault is being protected, you won't be phased by its construction or shape. Read Mecch's post again and you'll note it can be a part of good sex no matter what sex you are.

UM, I have to just say NO!  If my partner doesn't want to spend a few moments to slip it on, he better not expect me to fumble around like a pretzel trying to insert that thing.  Just how freaking sexy is that image?

I have to say I'm with Wolfter on this one.  I don't know, maybe I'm just old fashioned.  But I can't imagine sticking a plastic doohicky up my dingus.  Besides, I don't need condoms anymore, I'm already positive (dont send me emails I was just joking, sorta)

Lots of people feel the same way about male condoms---not sexy, not gonna do it, etc.

No matter what your feelings or opinions are about the female condom, whether you've used one or not, please fill out the survey.

When I noted you wouldn't be phased by shape/construction, I should have been clearer, I meant once it's inside. I don't disagree that its look is off-putting--Jan's windsock analogy is good. There's enough surface area, sponsored messages could be imprinted there, perhaps the Gettysburg Address.

For those concerned about looks, mood killing, delay, etc. you can also insert it many hours in advance.

Eewwwwww! I couldn't imagine walking around with one of those hanging out of my vajayjay for hours. Or out of my ass, for that matter. Too weird.

I've used them and I have three problems with them. The first one is that they tend to be a bit noisy, but a simple fix for that is to moan louder turn up the music.

The other two are related - they're difficult to find and when you do find them, they're expensive. The ONLY place I've ever seen them is at the Condomerie in Amsterdam. The condoms are a girl's best friend is a link to their website - it's a very informative website.

I did the survey - but had to pretend I still live in Manhattan as that is the one of the zip codes I remember. ;D

Hi Ann...thanks for completing the survey! The noise factor's been noted for some time, but in addition to music, there are other sounds to adequately act as sound mask. I guess you could compare the crinkly sound to the crying and internal chatter if one were to be diagnosed positive, or become pregnant. Seems navigable noise in comparison to the sounds of life crises.  I had no idea their availability was so limited in Europe! I'm going to inquire about that.

Regarding the hang out from the vajajay or anaynay or bootaytay due to preparedness--I included that info because it can be done with no ill consequence in terms of product performance. Weird, maybe, but for some, less weird than insertion at the time of gotta have you now.

As you know and advocate well, it's about having options and this is a condom that can suit (or suit up) both sexes.

Oh, now that's a great suggestion, the Address in Braille, there's just no contact benefit for the woman, like a ribbed condom. And,your reading would have to take place in advance of use.

When I was a newbie gay someone told me that in the 70's the clones wore cockrings and buttplugs all day long and had poppers in necklaces around their neck.
I bought one of those cone shaped cheap hard plugs, medium size.  Next morning I shoved it in and took the subway to work, thinking I would be turned on all day and have a wild evening.  Longest subway ride I ever took!

Hi WW,

Just pointed out ya CAN, not that ya hafta or wanna. Funny you thought about a gas, I thought about a solid. Yours would conceivably make a funnier noise OR cause cramping OR both.

Hopefully, the survey will net a Gold Star's worth of participation.

"Female Condoms are used by men, women, and transpeople for anal and vaginal sex to protect against sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and unplanned pregnancy"

I had no idea gay men also use female condoms. If that's the case, then the manufacturers or whoeverthefuck should strongly reconsider changing the name to something less 'female'.

The idea of wearing anything  female during hot anal sex between two men is blasphemy and a major turn off. I take offence. :)
