Condom Break
« Reply #50 on: February 28, 2008, 10:40:18 am »
Ann i would like your opinion as well. I have seen in other posts that you say you haven't seen anyone getting infected after a condom break because of the short exposure.
What are the real chances of getting infected after a condom breakage (in my case it was a very small hole to the top of the penis but not the part that covers the urethra).
I appreciate your help.

Jim,

You'd be unlikely to become hiv positive following this brief condom break, but you'd be wise to test at the appropriate time. Anyone who is sexually active should be getting tested at least once a year anyway.

I have one question. I engaged in oral sex with a person i don't know his status both giving and receiving and there was precum during this contact that came in contact with my mouth (no ejaculation occurred). Is this a risky contact and does it has to be followed by HIV testing?
Thanks

Giving oral is only a theoretical risk at best and you don't really need to test over it. However, as you've been told previously, anyone who is sexually active should be getting tested at least once a year anyway. If you tested over the condom break you brought here a few months ago, then you don't need testing again so soon.

Jim,

Why don't you just re-read the reply you've already had?

Ok so i suppose that there is no need for testing over this incident.
Whe are they so many different opinion about this matter?
The CDC claims that infection can occur that way, WHO claims that  <<HIV is transmitted through unprotected sexual intercourse (anal or vaginal), transfusion of contaminated blood, sharing of contaminated needles, and between a mother and her infant during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding.>> and it doesn't even refer to oral sex.
If thats the case someone who is exclusively oral and keeping a good oral hygiene should not worry about HIV - maybe for other STDs but not for HIV.

Quite right, Jim.

The CDC, believe it or not, is a political organization. Their lumping oral in with vaginal and anal sex is one part cover-your-ass and five parts demonizing any kind of sex outside of monogamous heterosexual marriage. If the CDC spoke the total truth regarding HIV infection as related to various acts, the religious fundamentalists would have a fit.

The WHO is more balanced and less beholden to extremist elements because it's international.

People who are strictly oral-only have found a way out of the safer-sex/HIV minefield. It has been that way right from the beginning. We're only just now really talking about it as science is overcoming anecdote.

I see what you say but since it is based on scientific facts  it should have been accepted from all organizations CDC, WHO etc no matter what.
Anyway. I would like to have Andy's opinion as well.
If thats the case then i would be more than glad to stick with oral sex and avoid other worries.
Andy i would appreciate your opinion on this incident.
Btw Bucko. I appreciate your answere. Nice blog.
Thanks

Ok, i guess there is not reason to get tested over this incident then.
I will continue using condoms when it comes to intercourse of course but i guess i don't have to worry for oral sex.
Thanks guys.......

Andy i would still like to know your opinion over this issue.......

Hello again. One more question for you. Ejaculating on each others genitalia is it a risk for transmission?

Thank you

Ejaculating on each others genitalia is not a risk of contracting HIV.
