Crazy?
« on: July 29, 2014, 12:27:43 pm »
I really just need to hear that I am nuts.  In early June I went for a massage, and perhaps I was unclear about my expectations, but he began to perform oral sex on me.  This lasted maybe 5 or 10 seconds tops, probably less, before I stopped him and he continued with the massage.  I never thought anything more about it until last week.

Towards the end of four weeks following the event, I came down with something.  Started off just feeling achy, my chest feeling tight (and hurting when I breathed), and night sweats.  Everything started off mild and progressed over about a week.  A few days later I discovered I had a low grade fever, a terrible cough developed, and the night sweats got worse and continued.  They outlived the rest of the symptoms.  I was even sweating throughout the day, especially after showering.  It was as if I just got out of the shower for two hours after.

I know symptoms aren't a way of diagnosing, and I know oral sex isn't a risk.  I presumed I just had a case of mild pneumonia or bronchitis, which the doctor also thought.  Of course as I searched my symptoms, especially the terrible sweats, hiv acute syndrome came up.  The thought hadn't crossed my mind until that time.

Even though I know everyone says receiving oral sex isn't a risk, I couldn't shake the symptoms or that perhaps I was a medical marvel.  So if someone can just say that I am nuts and to move on, and sorry for wasting your time, that I am not going to make scientific history, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks.

The risk factors for HIV are from unprotected anal and vaginal sex . Getting a blow job is not a risk .
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI.Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Although you did not have a risk and do not need to test for this specific incident , anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

So no need to even test over this particular event?  Other than normal testing as part of check ups?  Thanks for your help in calming my nerves, I'm sure I just had a pneumonia or bronchitis or something.  Sorry you have to deal with so many worried wells, myself included.

That is correct . There is no need to test for this specific incident, getting a bj is not a risk for HIV .

Six months ago I had unprotected sex. I tested at 8.5 weeks via a blood test and then at 12 weeks with the Oraquick at home test. Both came back negative.

Now I am going through some weird symptoms. Terrible body/joint pains all over, there is no swelling, but it is really hard to even walk. It all came on suddenly. I am also having trouble swallowing. Advil and the like don't seem to help. Of course when I search for some causes, HIV comes up. What are the chances that my 8.5 week test was too early and the Oraquick gave a false negative? Should I re-test?  Thanks.

You never had a risk to test for in the first place but if you had a 12 week negative HIV test past any possible exposure is conclusive so what ever is going on has nothing to do with HIV .
