Title: Droped by ADAP, I do not know where to post
Post by: urbanwildlife on March 31, 2007, 10:56:20 am
I do not know where to post this:

Florida has lowered the income qualifications for the ADAP and Ryan White Programs.  I don't feel I am getting any help from my ASO as quickly as I would like. They told me the medications I am on, the manufactures have programs that I qualify for that would cover my medications. Without going into the ASO grievance, which is not my P.O.T.

Who knows of these programs, where do I get the information and any caveats? Patience and research are not my best traits when they go hand in hand.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Sorry to hear about this.  It takes time to get meds through the pharmaceutical companies' prescription assistance programs.  Each company has a different application process and you need your doctor to sign the forms as well.

This website will get you what you need to start the process:

http://www.needymeds.com/indices/pap.tml (http://www.needymeds.com/indices/pap.tml)

If you're in danger of having your meds interrupted, try to get hold of Lisa through this thread:

Good luck and keep us posted.

LOWERED the qualifications?  What is wrong with those people?  How do they justify this?

Prime example of what goes wrong in a populous state with no state level taxes if you ask me.  Florida is one of the few other states I could see myself move to except when I read about stuff like this.

Hi Urban, welcome to the forums.

I've moved your thread over to the Living forum, where more people will see it and you'll get more responses. I'm afraid I can't help as I don't live in the States and don't know the ins and outs of ADAP.

Good luck getting sorted out as quickly as possible.

Ann

Hi Urban,

Welcome to the Fourms!

I sit on the Ryan White Title II State Advisory Council for the State of Arizona, and on the State ADAP Formulary committee.

The most recent numbers that have been released for national, are as follows:

Size of Family Unit                             Income Limit, effective 1/24/07
1                                                         $30,630
2                                                         $41,070
3                                                         $51,510
4                                                         $61,950
5                                                         $72,390
6                                                         $82,830
7                                                         $93,270
8                                                       $103,710

So if they told you anything other than the numbers above, then someone in Florida is making their own laws and in violation of Ryan White.  If the above numbers are lower than they were last year, then we were lied to, as we were told this was a raise in income limits.

These are national numbers and cannot be adjusted by the states as the Grantor is HHS in Washington, and each one of the states are Grantees.

I sure hope this helps.

Love,

If you need an emergency stash of meds to tide you over while you wend your way through the options, just PM me.
You may also want to try calling the PPA Rx(Partnership for Prescription Assistance) people. If you watch a little TV, the 800 number is listed on the commercials.

/edit   You won't be able to PM me until you have posted two more posts in the forums. Sorry, but that is a stopgap tool put in place to stop slammers.

Hey Urban,

Sorry bout that stress fiasco!

There are a variety of drug assitance programs as indicated by others directly through manufacturers.

Atripla has one:   Atripla Paitent Assistance Program.

They have a toll free hotline at 1 866-290-4767   fax  1 866-290-4487

Lisa has a great program on here so be sure to contact her if you are stuck between programs.

It might help to mention which meds you are taking so others with personal experience can direct you to the quickest solution.

Best of luck to you!

Wesley

Thank you to every one for their input. I will follow-up each as I can report what I encounter in the process.

I left a high stress, low paying and with out opportunity to a better paying job and less stressful that allows me to make ends meet. Or at least I thought I could. I am above the family guidelines for one as for income, not by much but I still can't afford treatment.  It seams o be a vicious circle.

Thank you again.

So far my case manager has provided me with four phone numbers, two of which are to the exact same person. The other two agencies, I have to gather items from my doctor before I can start their application process. My case manager got authorization for 60 days of my HIV meds, as far as I know none of the meds for side effects are covered. I have started the PPARX.COM process, but so far, without filing the appeal, I do not qualify for a number of my medications.

Between ADAP, Ryan White, my case manager and my doctor, it has been my doctor who actually has information that I need to apply for, fill out, etc.  My doctor is paid through these programs as well, but as I personally evaluate each entity and what I see as an acceptable level of continuing medical care and options to pursue, it has been my doctor who has helped the most. I hope her assistance continues!

I hope my thought is clear.

I have processes to continue and new ones to start, I'll post updates as they come.

Thanks for reading.

Moffie65:

To be a little more clear about what I have been told regarding ADAP and Ryan White: In Florida the percentage above the poverty level went from 350% to 300%. My income did go up yes, but at the same time the guidelines changed here.

By your statistics for a single household income, mine is above the base number.  I was told that if I had a dependent, then no problem I would qualify.

It's like murder.  They give you the tests and the meds and then they take it away.  They have you on record and know what you need but now they do not want to help.  I hope you will find help.
