siggi's - Icelandic skyr strained non-fat yogurt
« on: August 28, 2010, 12:49:22 pm »
It's all about this... that national strained "0" fat yogurt of Iceland, with 3-4 times the amount of milk (skim cow's milk) in a normal one cup of US yogurt, and 2-3 times the amount of protein -- with a VERY thick consistency.  Highly coved by athletes as a prime source of protein for he-man Viking musclemen.

Fortunately, a company based in New York has begun to make this domestically so you might want to try it.  It's VERY dense compared to supermarket type yogurt.  Whole Foods and Wegmans has it, though I found it yesterday at another place (non-chain).  The pomegranate & passion fruit is quite nice, but the flavoring is very subtle.

I think so, as it's strained, but I'd assume there are small differences.

I will have to check that out . I love to eat yogurt , I also cook with it some time . If its a super premium yogurt I don't know if I want to waste it as an ingredient in a recipe though .

I do want to try this.  I'm such a sucker for dairy.  When they see me coming to the Cheese counter in whole foods they pack up shop and pretend nobody's home.

Yes, but does Whole Foods carry Cowgirl Red Hawk?  If they do, I highly recommend you scores some.  The Mt. Tam is exquisite as well.

You evil whore, this cheese looks sooo good, I'm gonna be checking everywhere for this.

http://www.cowgirlcreamery.com/cheeseclub.asp

pricy but ultimately probably worth it.

All kidding aside thanks for indulging my dairy fetish.

Edit: is it sad that I find this thread more interesting than the porn thread?  Now if there were rednecks, cops, military or some other half baked masculine stereotype in that thread the pendulum could very well swing.

Seriously, you really *must* find yourself some Red Hawk.  I've been eating it for like three years when the cheese monger at fave shop Di Bruno Bros. turned me on to this.  Got some in the house right now that I think I'll scarf up.

Actually try ordering this one -- I've had all three of these and they're all superb:

Oh, and if you like stinky cheese this is IMO the very best French cheese, Epoisses:

This is probably my favorite of all cheeses.

don't know about everywhere but our local whole foods does have the red hawk. pricey, not as bad as direct buy because you can get a smaller package at a time but they do carry several of cowgirls cheeses.
