My name is Joseph and I'm 51 years old. I was diagnosed in 1988 and seem to be a slow progresser. I have never been on medications and the only health issues I have are fairly typical for someone my age. I do keep listening for that shoe to drop. I get labs done every three months. If any thing changes I want to know about it ASAP.
I live in a very small mountain town in Southeastern Arizona (4 miles from Mexico). We have a stable population of about 2000. It is a friendly community surrounded by beautiful mountains . I am very Fortunate that I have not had to deal with taking meds and the side effects they can cause, the nearest ID Doctor is about 150 miles away. Loneliness and stigma? That is another kettle of fish. I am scared to death that someone will find out about my status. It's kind of sad considering I'm a medical case manager for the Ryan White program.
I think that's enough about me for now. Have a great day!

Hello Joe,
Welcome and I am glad you decided to join us. I was enjoying your introduction until the scared to death bit, that sounds like an awful lot to carry. When not in London I live on a small island off the North coast off Scotland ,that added to where I spent the first 16 years off life means I have some idea off the ups and downs off beautifully isolated living.
I hope that as time progresses you will find the forums as supportive as I and others do. Look forward to hearing more from you.

Thanks Theyer. Perhaps "scared to death" is a little strong. Very concerned is more appropriate. We still have people here that believe you can "catch" Aids from a toilet seat or a shared cigaret. I do a little education and out reach and the level of ignorance is amazing.

Well you should never smoke on toilets,

Welcome, Joe. I have a sister that lives in Phoenix and have been there a few times to visit her. I'm always amazed at the mountains in Arizona. My sister took me to Sedona once and the beauty was indescribable. If I was a millionaire, I would surely move there.
I look forward to hearing more from you. Again, welcome!

Greetings from Santa Fé, NM.
This forum is been very helpful in getting to know people and resources to organize my medical care in a new place since I moved here about one year ago.
Living in a remote location can be hard for a social life. Hope that visiting here you may meet people close to you.
Hugs, Steve

Just noticed this...not sure if I should welcome you or you welcome me since you came aboard at least a month ahead of me. In NYC, which surprisingly, can be as isolating as any place. Anyway, howdy...enjoy the company...would offer some Cheez-its but my arm won't reach that far.
