California ADAP Changes Coming
« on: January 11, 2011, 01:46:50 am »
Jerry Brown's proposed 2011-2012 budget has big ADAP changes coming.

More funding overall for ADAP but $16.8 million in cuts to those who are making more than 200% of the federal poverty line.

From the CA budget website:
http://www.ebudget.ca.gov/StateAgencyBudgets/4000/4265/department.html
"
The Governor's Budget includes a net increase of $86.9 million for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program to reflect a projected increase in prescription drug costs and caseload. This amount includes savings of $16.8 million due to an increase in client share of cost to the maximum percentages allowable under federal law for specified ADAP clients, but would limit ADAP clients with private insurance or Medicare Part D to a maximum cost sharing percentage.
"

Looks like there are going to be new co-pays instituted according to an AHF post.

thanks for that heads-up
(and welcome to the forums! You couldn't have had your first post be something nice like introducing yourself; but had to start off with bad news, huh? LOL :D )

looks like Cali will be joining the NASTAD waiting list watch in the future then. :( Ouch!

I've been reading the forums for quite a while, but this made my blood boil enough to actually register and post something.

It just figures... three weeks after I get on ADAP making just over 3x the federal poverty line, cuts are proposed for everyone making over 2x...

double-ouch!

thankfully you have some time then to look for alternative plans. Now that you've started meds, you definitely want to stay on them. (you don't want to risk resistance, and with your current numbers, you'll definitely be wanting to stay on meds to get those numbers better ;) ) If there's an ASO in your area you'll definitely want to hook up with them, if you're not already, to get some "professional" advice on options in your area.

I wonder how many people who make more than 28k a year are uninsured or are underinsured?
