Are you "clean"?

Always found that question offensive, and gay guys still ask it during online hookups.

But I had to laugh (or cry) when I found this advertisement from World War II...

Very good advertisement. I would have it enlarged and framed to put it on the chimney.

Peter, last Thursday, I did a Teen Health Fair in Douglas, and one of the seventh graders used "clean" like it was very familiar.  I guess if it is happening in a city that skirts the border, you will find it everywhere in the vernacular.

Oh well, evolution sucks, however it apparently has been with us at least since the fourties, so we probably shouldn't fight the wave.
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

I think you are on to something here Jan,

In "my family" stories Aunt Mae had more husbands than Elizabeth Taylor and during WWII she drove a taxi in Sonoma County.  One night she picked up a soldier who wanted to go to Petaluma... She convinced the man he would have more fun if he went to Santa Rosa instead.  Santa Rosa was a bigger town, Petaluma was the "egg capital" of the world.  They got to Santa Rosa and he thought he had been invited to go home with Aunt Mae.  She kicked the soldier out of her cab and found out later, Petaluma was the Red Light District.  ;D  Have the best day

too funny, Peter.

The term 'clean' has been around a long time though (Yes, I hate it on hookup sites) - I have a handpainted post card that my grandad picked up in Egypt during the First World War. It made a claim that the women were "very sweet, very clean"

No avoiding this nasty question, even in French!  Frequent gay chat question "T'es clean?"
zut alors

If a potential partner asks "Are you clean?" or "Are you healthy?" - well I suppose if its understood the question refers to HIV status, an honest answer is called for.

What about a cut and run tactic, to avoid the whole matter?

Afterall, if one doesn't answer, it's judgement by omission.  Do you think it is OK to answer, "yeah I'm clean" if one then declines any further sexual interest (lies, cuts, and runs, in other words).

What if that person later finds out you are HIV+, and considers you a liar and says so socially.  I guess, who cares...
