College update!
« on: September 01, 2008, 12:57:16 pm »
Hey guys! Still alive!

Everything has been going pretty well. My classes are not scary at all, all of my professors are tolerable (except my english rhetoric and poetics professor, she's a BITCH). I'm doing well so far. I even auditioned for a play and failed miserably at it, but at least I'm putting myself out there.

I've made a bunch of friends and have been spending my time surrounded by a pack of lesbians, hahaha. I've already even had one romantic tangle already! He turned out to be a douchebag I think, I'm not sure, it's not all worked out yet, but there are plenty of other fish in the sea I suppose? And this place is CRAWLING with sodomites, so I think I'll be fine. The first meeting of the glbt group on campus is tomorrow night, so I'm looking forward to that.

I also joined a jewish group (even though I'm only jewish by heritage, not by religion, yuck, and my friend Kate pressured me into it!) and a young democrats group (also because of peer pressure!) I plan on joining the English club, too, because I'm nerdy like that.

Oh, and Wednesday morning I'm meeting with the woman in charge of the study abroad program here so I can start planning for STUDYING ABROAD IN AUSTRALIA my junior year, you can all just imagine the terror that will reign down upon the earth when I meet up with certain people when THAT happens.

I've mostly been spending a lot of time with my friends, especially the one who has an apartment off campus, and who is so sweet.

She even dyed my hair for me last night! LOL.

Here's a picture from last night with my friend Kate trying to eat my face and me looking really unamused by it!

Awww, I am glad things are going so smoothly with college. You were bound to pick up one bitch for a teacher, it never fails but I am sure you will win her over. Glad you getting along fine, I was worried about you. And I think your hair looks cute too.

Annnnd I just joined the school's literary magazine.

Does anyone have any ideas for events for my GSA? (Yeah, it's gay-straight alliance, to whoever asked).

I was thinking of doing something major for the Trans Day of Remembrance, but only because that's probably going to be my 'field' or whatever.

I know there is an HIV testing day here on campus, so I was thinking of contacting the health center and organizing something with the GSA to correspond with that somehow.

Thoughts? :)

We did an adopt-a-straight-friend campaign, but then again it was in Berkeley so being straight was far more subversive than being gay...

My experiences are - most 'straight' guys that go to those GSA meetings are all secretly gay and the girls all secretly wish the gay boys are straight.  ;)

Good luck Mouse, you'd have so much fun!

Hi Mouse...
I'd say for the GSA its important to try and BE THERE so to speak for all the big HIV/AIDS events in the year.
I can only think of two right now: the AIDS WALK and the December 1"DAY WITHOUT ART" . But there are other events like: marching in gay pride parades and having a table or "booth" set up for freshman registration......so you expose them right off the bat. You could also have a gay film night....yea!!!!!!! I love films.
Ok...google: Dec 1 Day Without Art
and
World AIDS DAY

Good luck.

Mouse, when I went to the Univ of Maryland I took a Health course on AIDS education.  This was before I was poz, so how ironic is it that I'm here posting?   ::) Anyway, the professor said that they were going to conduct a blind study of students' lifestyles vs. testing positive/negative.

I volunteered for the study and helped check students in and to get them registered.  Then they would answer 50 multiple choice questions to see how their lifestyle was (sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll....you get the idea), and finally they had blood drawn to be tested for HIV.  This was back in 1990 or so, and we had 3000 students turn out to join in the experiment.  Only 3 tested pos, by the way.

Just saying, if this interests you, you could speak with a Health Professor and ask if they do anything like this already.  Not just the testing, but the questionnaire part too.  I found it very rewarding to volunteer at the event.  :)

Glad you're having fun on campus!!
