Title: unprotected insertive anal
Post by: racino on April 17, 2011, 10:08:52 am
i am 49

this happened 3/22/11 - exposure time a minute or less - several  days later he posted online "I just found out I turned poz" - I had baseline neg hiv test 3/28 -   -   I will test again at 6 weeks

today is 26th day - i read that "most" people seroconvert by 25 days - what is meant by "most" in this instance- 51%?

I haven't had risky sex in years - i do receive oral sometimes

thanks

Racino,

For a start, were you the insertive partner or the receptive partner (top or bottom)? This matters because the bottom is always at more risk in unprotected intercourse. Either way, you're unlikely to end up positive over this very brief incident. However, if you were bottom and he came inside you, then your risk is much higher, regardless of the duration of the event. Please clarify - were you top or bottom and if you were bottom, did he cum inside you?

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. Average is just that - average.

A six week negative result must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

You also need to test for all the other, more easily transmitted infections, regardless if you were top or bottom.

Oh sorry Ann, I was the top -

thanks for info about seroconverting - I asked because I was thinking about testing again prior to 6 weeks - but I will just wait - and I will test for other STI's as well.

and of course I will always use condoms - don't know what came over me -  it was just stupid and careless

your information and comments in this forum are very helpful -

Racino,

As  you were the top, your chances of coming out of this hiv negative are very, very high. Saying that, you still need to test to know for sure. You're right to wait for the six week test as this will be much more meaningful than say, a four week test. A six week test is very unlikely to change, but make sure you confirm at the three month point.

I understood from your first post that this isn't something you make a habit of, but you have a great chance of coming out of this one-off ok. Just don't let that give you false confidence that you can do it again. Don't. Don't risk it.

Racino,

Yes, keeping busy with other things is the best thing you can do for yourself at this point. And don't fall into the trap of micro-examining your body all the time. Doing that is stressful and you'll find yourself either causing symptoms through pure stress, or noticing things that have always been there that you just never noticed before.

I'm quite sure you're going to come out of this brief exposure a-ok, so hang in there.

Hi Ann

tested negative today at 6 weeks; actually 5 weeks and 6 days , I couldn't wait until tomorrow - I will re-test at 13 weeks

thank you again -  I wil let you know the 13 week result but I am much more hopeful now with a 6 week negative -

Given the facts of your incident and with that negative result you are very likely to continue testing negative at 13 weeks.

Good luck with that and while waiting to re-test make an effort to keep busy with other things. It really will help to make the time pass much more easily.

Cheers.
