mmm... I had venison last month on my birthday.  Love it.  Also love buffalo tenderloin though I've not had it in ages.

I *LOVE* octopus and squid.  It's simply the best.  I also learned to eat a decent amount of offal because my ex-roomie in NYC worked for Mario Batali, and he kind of build his name on the current offal renaissance in cooking.

Do octopus and squid ever get tender? I ate some once and chewed and chewed and chewed. Rubber!

Had to look up "offal".  Defined: Offal is very nearly a whole class of food in itself, encompassing everything from the heart, liver, lungs, and entrails of an animal, to the tail, feet, and head, each part with its own unique and yes, delicious, flavors. The word “offal” actually comes from the Old English “off” and “fall,” referring to the pieces that fall from an animal carcass during butchering. Various dictionaries refer to offal as “refuse” or “rubbish” or “waste parts,” when in fact they have much to offer nutritionally and gustatorially.

Venison, anyone?  I have a freezer full.  Tasty and delicious.

Yes -- I shot Bambi.

I'd call squid and octopus "rubberish" but if it's so rubbery that you can't eat it something isn't right with it.  It's not something I buy in the store myself (I only eat it in restaurants) so I can't advise you any particulars on how to prepare it properly myself.  Still, how can anyone not even like the common fried calimari which is such a staple of the Mediterranean cuisines?

"The hatred for women on this board is staggering.   Roll Eyes"

Actually I was totally kidding.  I have done a lot of pro bono work for sexual assault victims and my graduate thesis had to do with social stratification and sexual assault.  In other words I have done a lot more for furthering the cause of issues related to women than most people.  I also was a volunteer working with sexual assault victims in law school.

I was merely having fun with a sexual stereotype, a joke, a myth related to genitals, and the aversion gay men are stereotypically portrayed as having to female genitalia.  It was a joke, a mild, little joke.

If I offended any female, I am very sorry.

MISUNDERSTANDING ALERT:  Scotttt-  I wasn't making reference to your post, I was referencing something someone else said in another one.  I can't even remember which thread it was right now.  Sorry for the confusion.  Didn't mean to suggest you were actually being misogynistic!  Somebody else made some comment about how the people on this board have such hatred for women and the Bible.  I think it was in my Transexual Menace thread, actually.

EDIT:  See posts 15 and 16 of the Transexual Menace thread.  That should explain it.  Sorry again!  ;D

I have an excellent sauteed shredded brussel sprouts and pancetta recipe.  Many people claim to dislike sprouts until they eat mine!

Hey Tim,

It's all good. I came home after having lunch with friends, and apparently something crawled up my ass on the way home.  Porcupine perhaps?!?!?!

Take care,

My favorite dining is surf and turf. A nice plump lobster tail, and a lucious piece of beef. MMMMMmmmmmmmmmmm Like my beef rare to medium. I usually tell the wait person to walk it across, and walk it back.

PS; And no offense is taken about the commentary about women. You see gentlemen, we ladies rarely participate in flame baiting, bitch fests, or pissing contests. We prefer to sit back and watch you fella's. It's truly a gas sometimes. ;D  :-*

Thanks Lisa,  I know I could learn a lesson or two regarding flame-baiting bitch fests.  Testosterone does funny things to people.   And I am not trying to be man-hating here.

If it used to be alive, I'll grill it and eat it. I like my beef rare please, very rare. On the earlier topic of Mint Jelly-Friend or Foe? I think it's a bit much myself, but once, when I was very stoned and very hungry, I made a peanut butter and mint jelly sandwich out of desperation, And now these many years later I cannot remember if it was any good or not  :-\

I have heard that Ostrich is quite tasty, but very rarely in the offer where I live.
I really want to try buffalo meat......(still walk it across, and walk it back) medium rare.

Damn .. this thread is making me hungry.

Guess I am back to the grocery store for a nice steak to grill tonight for dinner with my lonely salad.

And for those of you who never ate octopus, fresh is usually less rubbery than not so fresh.  Octopus sashimi is awesome with a bit of soy and wasabi on it.

OK... here's one:  who likes sweetbreads?  fyi it's always on the menu in pricey places and it's the thymus gland of a lamb or calve less than one year in age.  I know.  Not nice to the little animals but it's really rich and tasty.
