Were there any particularly insane Black Friday stories?
I haven't had a chance to look for them. (Get my American news mostly by podcasts or downloads...)

I don't do Black Friday, which is now Black Thursday. I don't deal with crowds well, and they usually have 10 of each item.
About the stories, I just saw a news report about a man firing a gun in a Target store in Aurora, CO, which is the same place where the Batman theater shootings happened. There was another story of a guy telling people to get the fuck back and don't shove his kids, or he would stab them. See below:

One of my favorites happened a few years ago. There was a stampede and a woman was knocked to the ground. Okay, shouldn't laugh, but that's what ya get. The funny part was her wig flying off, and she quickly tried to put it back on. See below:

Well Ed and I went to Walmart. We wanted a 60 inch flat screen. There were two old ladies struggling to load the last one unto the cart.
But Ed and I came prepared, I peppered sprayed one of the old ladies, and Ed tasered the other one. We grabbed the box, and went to the check out. ;D

By the way,... We avoided all the stores Thanksgiving, Friday and Saturday. No need to be around the crazies. :)

I actually went out Friday about 9:00 am. By then, the crowds had died down. I didn't even have to wait in line longer than 5 minutes. I wasn't about to go out on Thanksgiving, or during the early am on Friday.

I got to see some of the mayhem videos on youtube today.
I think many people are taking a critical and thoughtful view this year, as opposed to a few years ago.
I am happy to see Walmart employees took advantage of the heightened awareness of some of these issues and chose Black Friday for a mass action. Even though the effect seemed mitigated, it was a step in the right direction.
The irony of the day wasn't lost on me a few years ago, during the first riots and injuries and deaths. That many of the people most desperate for the bargains being offerred by big box discounters, were likely in low wage jobs themselves, and obviously some of them in companies such as Walmart, etc etc. But there was little solidarity.
This year, at least people paid attention to the employees complaints about having to work such stupid hours. And the strangeness of this hysterical materialism all played out in a few short hours. And retail depending so much on Xmas season, and this day in particular, to turn profits. Depending on people buying a fair amount of junk no one really needs, or at least doesn't need so badly as to get injured, or ruin a holiday with family.

You realize that there is no need for people to indulge in such idiotic behavior in order to save a few measly pennies and also admit that you're glad to see that a few voices are being heard as a result of these negative occurrences yet you still start a thread looking to gloat over other peoples' misfortune as if you get off on watching some twisted reality show.

You should really keep your ridiculous low opinion of me to yourself, as it adds nothing to a topic that is in the news, and which can be discussed without personal insults.

I went to Best Buy, but just to buy myself a few things (nothing major -- just a USB stick and an HDMI cable) and I went in the afternoon so I guess it was post-mayhem. It was crowded but not insane. More like normal weekend I suppose.
I don't really go in for the post-Thanksgiving sales unless I was specifically in the market for a big-ticket item like a TV.

I went to Best Buy also. They had some really good prices on Blu-Rays, especially for tv series like The Borgias, Fringe, and Breaking Bad. The lines were pretty long (at least 50-80 people when I went to pay), but they were very organized at this particular location and it took maybe 5-10 minutes to get out of the store.
I went around noon; there is no sale on Earth that would get me out of bed at 4 or 5 in the morning.

We were going to see a movie on friday, until we drove by the mall and you couldnt even make it in the parking lot. We nixed that idea pretty quick.
All my shopping now must be completed within walking distance from my office because I cannot handle trying to park and deal with a mall.

We went to Walmart for some thing for the grand kid and my kid she wented that game for the walking dead . So in there at 6:15 to 10:00 long time but fun . Ooo and found that need for speed wanted

No reviews? I know Skyfall is now the biggest Bond film ever, but that doesn't mean anything. I want to see Lincoln, but not sure I would want to see in the theater. Let us know whether they show Lincoln having tons of butt sex.
Btw, I have never seen a movie in 3D at the theater. We now have a 3D TV at home. Transformers was pretty good in 3D at home. Just got the last Harry Potter in 3D, but haven't watched yet. I wouldn't want to watch every movie in 3D--just the big action movies. There are now 3D TV networks. I think NBC had an Olympic 3D channel. I think that would get old. I know the theater 3D must be better.

I liked Skyfall but don't consider it stellar. There wasn't much plot and what there was, was crystal clear. I like Bonds with preposterous stakes of global import. This was Freudian. And not enough camp though Bardem gave it his best.

Me too. I liked Skyfall, but don't think it is the best Bond film, which many people seem to be saying. I much preferred Casino Royale. I was amused by the gay subtextual allusions.
I really liked Life of Pi. The 3D effects are better than in any film I've seen before. Much better than Avatar. Some scenes just left me in awe.
