Hemorrhoidectomy
« on: January 27, 2014, 07:05:23 pm »
Hi, I'm interested in hearing from people who have had a hemorrhoidectomy and also to let people considering having one on how my experience has been.
I,m a 42 year old guy, diagnosed HIV in 2009 with CD4 of 60 and VL 70000.
I,m on Atripla and my last results over 6 months ago was CD4 390 VL undetetcable.
I had tests done a month ago but haven,t called up for my results yet.
I,ve had problems with haemorrhoids off and on for the last 6 years but only in the last year they've become troublesome. I had a thumb sized mass that would prolapse on a bowel movement and eventually would not go back in.  I also had what I thought were internal polyps but after a colonoscopy it turned out they were skin tags left over from previous internal haemorrhoids.
I have read that it can be risky for someone with HIV to have this operation but I really wanted this fixed.
I never told my local GP I am HIV positive as I didn't want to be told I can't have this operation I also feel I am treated differently once a Dr knows I am.
I did tell my HIV Dr I was having the operation and he seemed okay about it.
I had surgery last Monday 20/1/2014 and now one week post op.
I had 2 haemorrhoids removed and 3 internal skin tags removed.
As you may have read elsewhere the pain is extreme to say the least especially bowel movements, I'm on Oxycodone, Valium, Ibuprofen and paracetamol & pot.
I haven't had any problems with infection or drug interactions with atripla so far.
I,m a light smoker, don't drink and eat right.
I,m interested to hear from others with HIV who have had this operation and their experiences and healing time.

I found the post below extremely helpful in my recovery and hope it can maybe help others in the same situation.

While I haven't had this particular operation done I have had surgery on my rectum, anus whatever....lol.

My recovery has taken sometimes two weeks to stop bleeding upto a month from anal fissures. I've had three of these surgeries and it's been about two to three weeks at most. My Doctor had no problems approving the surgery and I've had 5 surgeries this past year.

My most common pain was immediately after, and be careful with the constipation those can lead to bad anal fissures..stool softener is your best friend.
