Have I ruled out Hiv
« on: October 21, 2009, 10:52:44 am »
I have had two hiv tests at 5 (orasure advanced oral HIV 1) months and 5.5 (EIA hiv 1 and 2 test) months from a low risk exposure where a stripper was giving me manual stimulation and then I thought she tried to infect me after she touched the end of my penis with her finger and possible fluids. Symtoms began ~9 hours after possible exposure with thigh tingling and discomfort. Over the next 5 days I had anal pain, pain in middle of penis and tip of penis pain, slight headaches and over thought of risk made me feel like I was nauseas but no vomiting - I also had an abrasion on my penis head from self stimulation a few hours earlier.
My new primary care doctor thinks I am healthy after running several tests after 5.28 months including the HIV EIA test, HEP A-C, urinalysis, ESR, TSH, lyme, CBC all normal or within range except cholesterol.
My first Primary care doctor found after two months that my testosterone was low but everything else was normal except for HSV 1 which was just above a value of  IGG  3.1 but he said that he did not see any active disease for tests he ran.
Overall I have had groin pain, anal pain and thigh pain and low back pain on and off for first three months leg pain continuous in varying degrees of discomfort, penis head became dry for a couple of days. (I am also a runner 5-10 miles runs and 25miles/week) PC1 doctor prescribed anti inflammatories for groin pain which I took for about 10days at the wrong dose of 1 per day and then another 11 days at 2 per day.
Then right after I took levaquin for pain and possible soft prostate - from uroligist for ~20 days
Then after a fall running (dont think I hit my head by definetly fell on both my hands and kicked a piece of ice with my right big toe) I had head neuralgia eye pain and tongue pain 1st PCF thought I had herpes and prescribed Valtrex  at approximately 4 months from possible exposure-but I may have pushed for that diagnosis (I have been very scared I had herpes then with buring hands and feet I thought HIV)I had a sore throat, and then burning hands and feet and sinus infection and now I am aware that my gums are receding a little - from hygenist. I have had alot of anxiety from the second I thought the stripper touched me. Even to me hiv seems like a long shot - since I did not have intercourse only hand manipulation - two qualified tests would have to be wrong during symtoms and I am a late seroconverter at 5.5 months with my PCD telling me I am completely healthy. Since I got the results for my blood HIV test all the neuralgia's have disappered and I am relatively pain free.

1)   please reassure me that a stripper can not infect with a single finger touch to my penis tip with an fresh abrasion and hand manipulation –
2)   that two test are not able to detect antibodies at 5 months - and my body can not produce what is needed for the test to turn positive 5.28 months after a low risk situation and my doctor said I am healthy.   –
3)   would hiv neuralgia stop after seroconversion?
4)   That taking antinflamatories, levaquin, Valtrex and sinus medication over a 4 month period would not affect a Orasure test at 4.998 months after exposure and an EIA HIV 1& 2 test at 5.28 months

Nothing you have reported sexually would have put you at risk for HIV transmission. Whatever is causing your symptoms has nothing to do with HIV.

No testing is necessary. If symptoms continue to trouble you, that's something to discuss with your doctor.

This is absolutely not an HIV situation. Period.

Neo,

1. You cannot be infected with hiv through someone touching your penis, no matter what condition you penis is in or what condition the hand or finger is in. Sexually speaking, hiv is transmitted through unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. And that's it. Use condoms correctly and consistently and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them correctly and with confidence.

2. If you actually had a risk (you did not) and became infected, the test would pick it up by six WEEKS. Testing out to three months for a conclusive negative is just to be safe.

3. Hiv related neuralgia does not normally accompany primary infection. It something that is mainly related to some of the hiv meds, or something that happens after YEARS of having an untreated hiv infection.

4. None of those drugs would affect an hiv antibody test.

You did not have a risk and it's no surprise you tested hiv negative. Keep working with your doctor to find out what, if anything is wrong with you. Whatever it is, it is NOT hiv. You do not have hiv and you do not need further testing over this NO RISK situation.

Andy, Ann - thanks for your responses. I understand the transmission routes, testing time windows, and time to infection and my issues seem to miss on all except for unexplained symptoms. The issue with which I have the most concern is the tingling hands and feet, face. I have read that PN can be a delay when it occurs for the Hiv test.
1)   Is this correct and how long would a delay be if any?
2)   Also, if Hiv made it directly into the blood stream would it still take 2-4 weeks for symptoms to occur or would it be more immediate?
I am working with my PCD who thinks that my hiv tests at over 5 months are conclusive but still offered to test me again if it would make me feel better since hiv is still on my mind – I thought my my tongue was white with some infection but my PCD said it was not anything. But a repeat of what should be a conclusive test will not make me feel better only re-ignite my stress and delay a possible answer if any. That is primarily why I took the test at over 5 months anyway.
Thanks in advance for you responses – I just would not want to put anyone else in jeopardy or peril because I did not complete my due diligence especially those who are closest to me.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, HIV is not your issue. You didn't do anything to put yourself at risk for HIV transmission sexually. Getting tested again for HIV is a waste of resources and money. Your physician obviously recognizes that you're anxious, but feelings aren't facts. You have no basis whatsoever in HIV science to be concerned.

As for PN, that is neither something which would affect the reliability of an HIV test result nor is it an HIV-specific or ARS-specific symptom. In general neither the presence nor the absence of any symptoms should ever be taken as a reliable indication of HIV status. Only an HIV test taken at the proper time can give you that answer if there has been a genuinely risky incident, specifically unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse.

Ann - the past 3 weeks - I am having a lot of trouble with intermittent pain, stiffness in my feet some times in my toes and my feet feel a little thinner as well as my wrists and face. In the moring they have felt stiff and sometimes not at all. I have done searches through the archives of reports of various degrees of pain in feet and it gives me alot of worry. unfortunetly, I only have my original incident and I have not put myself at any additional risks over the months, and my two tests should prove to be conclusive. I spoke to an HIV PA a few months ago and they said that if I had HIV I would not be able to run 5 miles a day which I do 3-5 times a week and they also said the tests would be positive in 6-8 weeks just like you said. But since I dont feel 100% and I am seeing a close parallel, in my opinion, I was hoping you would be able to give me atleat a suggestion of what to ask my dr in the way of tests in case her original opinion of panic disorder is incorrect unless you think the foot pain coupled with my original symtoms is reason enough to retest HIV?. As far as STD testing I think I have only had an RPR, HIV and nothing else besides the tests I listed in my first post. Now the CBC did list out the neutrophiles and lympocytes which were also normal at 5.28 months. One other thing is in one of your posts to another member you mentioned that a yellow fever vacination might cause an adverse reaction. I did have a flu vaccination a week prior to my original event and also several weeks ago in October any... way food for thought.

Reread the replies that you have been given. Your issues have nothing to do with HIV.

Neo,

You need to continue working with a doctor to find out what, if anything, is wrong with you. We only concentrate on hiv here and I cannot recommend any other testing. You weren't really at risk for other STIs during a handjob either, so you don't even need that.

If you don't trust your original doctor's assessment of what is wrong with you, you'll have to find another doctor and get a second opinion. We cannot help you with that here.

Whatever is going on with you has NOTHING to do with hiv infection. We only deal with hiv here, so you'll have to go somewhere else to find your answers. Good luck.

I had another hiv test done before the new year and am getting my testosterone checked again. not like my pcf thought I needed to have it done. unless there is some miracle from God himself I am certain I am infected regardless of the low risk and negative tests out to five months. This forum archives has been very helpful in diagnosing myself with the myriads of symtoms I have seen in myself and are reflected by the archives. I have gone to many doctors to have my condition diagnosed even with telling them that I think my symtoms are caused by Hiv. I have been checked by an infectious disease doctor which this forum knows you can not diagnose hiv with a check up and has prettty much dismissed my issues back in May09. All I really need is not more analysis but how do i contact an ID hiv speacialist that is in my health plan? they are only listed as infectious disease doctors by my plan directory.  thanks again in advance for your help.

Neo,

I hate to disappoint you, but you simply do NOT have hiv. Get used to it. I suggest you seek counselling to get to the bottom of your inability to accept your negative hiv status. We cannot help you with that here.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned!
