What do I do?
« on: February 19, 2010, 03:34:32 pm »
I found my positive status by completing a life insurance blood test and received results in mail.  Very Shocked.  Did  not know. How long have I been.  I found out on Februray 16, 2010.  I told my partner while I driving for another test.  I had the western blot and it was positive.  I trying to face the facts.  When do I start taking meds.  What is my cd-4 count.  How long has this been inside of me.  I feel healthy.  But scarred.  I need any information.   Thank You

First things first go see a doctor.  If you're not sick now your counts are most likely fine an Infectious Diseases Doctor can answer most of your questions.  They will draw blood and you actually may need to schedule a blood draw before you see the doctor so he'll be able to talk to you about your numbers.

Don't panic and you'll be fine.

Hello Will

This site has a series of lessons that you might find helpful as you try to sort out what is next.  They are nicely organized so you can find info on a lot of the stuff that is really foreign at first.  They are under the treatment tab up above, or you can just click here: http://www.aidsmeds.com/articles/Introduction_4702.shtml

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

I know you will hear this a lot but YOU WILL BE OK! The first few appointments will be overwhelming but try and establish yourself with a doctor, get your numbers, discuss medication timing and try to deal with things realistically.  I've found out my positive status 12.29.09 and just getting settled with the idea and numbers and medication.  Not everyone's numbers call for medication, everyone is different.  Keep your head up, you wont die of HIV/AIDS.  Educate yourself and your partner and you will be ok :)  We all are at the end of the day :).  Blessed Be....

Hey guys,  A really big THANKS.   My partner is negative, so I thank GOD for that.  As our day goes by we look at each other and realize true "LOVE" is there.  This website is amazing, such encouraging outcomes of success.  I am so blessed that I have found you.  On Tuesday when I found out the news I wanted to pull my hair out,  I soon realized I was bald, no hair to pull.  OK, now what.  I decided to research the web and found GREAT LIVES LIVING.  We appreciate YOU.   Thanks Again, Will

Hi Iwill, welcome to the forum.

You need to know that your partner cannot be considered hiv negative until he has tested negative at three months past your last unprotected incident of intercourse.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
