I had some constipation after starting meds and after a large bowel movement I had some blood, not in the stool but during passing, some blood followed. There were some minor pain/discomfort in the rectal area but since It didnt happen again for some weeks and I didnt experience any problems with my stomach or bowel movements I didnt think about it.
Forward a month or so.....
When I went to do nr.2 today I noticed some blood again, it hurt a bit in the rectal area when passing but the stool was "fine" I mean nothing strange that I noticed.
The blood was red and not coagulated.
Anyone knows what might cause this? I had an anal pap smear done but havent went back to pick up the results yet. Should I go to see the doctor tomorrow?

I had similar problems for a while. I went back and forth between diarrhea and constipation. Much of the constipation was severe, and I had some red blood in my stool. It came from a tear in the outer lining of the anus and it turned out not to be a big deal.
I told my doc what was going on and we kept an eye on it. It came back a few months later and then resolved itself on its own. It came back again about a year later, and again went away on its own.
If you have problems with constipation, I recommend taking stool softeners, not laxatives. Below is a good site to relieve constipation without any meds. The biggest differences for me was water and exercise.

Constipation can lead to some bleeding, it has nothing to do with HIV. If you think the bleeding is intense then you should see a doctor.

I would say the amount of blood is equivalent to of a few drops or so.

I am reporting LIVE from the seat of my toilet, as I write this. I am sure the water will be all red when I stand up. Seriously, it sounds like constipation and a possible tear that you have. I have a fissure that heals, only to break back open. Often times, I don't even have any poo on the tp-- just a lot of blood, which would suggest I am too constipated all the time. Number 2 and shaving are the two things I wish we didn't have to do. Having said that, people say I really like to talk about it a lot.

Then it is just the constipation. Try to ear more fibers or something similar. Just be careful because constipation can also leads to hemorrhoids if you force it too much.

Frank blood in the stool, is as others have pointed out, most commonly associated with anal tears caused by constipation or hemorrhoids. These tears occur as the anus mucousa is damaged by evacuation of the hardened stool. The new fresh blood that you noticed today and associated pain would suggest that if this is the case, that eithor new damage to the anal passage has occured or an older fissure/tear has opened and is bleeding.
Of course symptoms cannot be diagnosed over the internet and this MUST be checked by your doctor to definitively establish the cause, as there are other less likely but nether-the-less possible reasons for the bleeding occuring.
While it's healing it's advisable to refrain from receptitive anal sex until the bleeding has ceased but if you do choose to do so, ensure your partner uses a condom and plenty of lubricant to lessen the risk of STI transmission. Even with a longer-term partner you should use condoms until it heals so that the possibility of other non sexual infections are avoided......you only have one bottom so be kind to it while it's getting better.

The first thing you need to do is get those results back.
This sounds like hemorrhoids to me. ( this is not a diagnosis) I've had them on again , off again for years. Fortunately, they haven't bothered me for quite some time. When they would bleed, I would notice it, upon the wipe. The blood was very red. Even an occasional drip of blood into the commode, but mostly noticeable on the wiping.
When you pick up the results for the Pap smear, there may be mention of hemorrhoids, in the notation.
When I had my colonoscopy done, It was noted in the findings, that hemorrhoids existed.
Constipation, can cause this. If there is a serious, burning, itching issue, around the anus, it could very well be hemorrhoids.
Has constipation or diarrhea, been a frequent problem for you. Extended sitting on the toilet, can help to push these things out, and can cause irritation. Try not to force bowel movements. Stool softeners would help.
But yes, you should see you doctor, and get a referral, to get yourself checked again.

Thanks. Im going for labs soon so I will see the doctor shortly after.
I have an upcoming DEXA scan, eye exam and dental check up later this month so Ill ask the doc to add an anoscopy(?) to that list.

i had a little issue with this, more discomfort/pain than blood. i went to the dr and he did an anal scope and took a look in there. Evidentally i had a small hemmorhoid that was bleeding a bit and my prostate was a little inflammed. he did notice a little blood that showed up on the swab test he did, but nothing major
He did a few tests to make sure no prostate problems and gave me some foam to shoot up my butt called proctofoam, this helped alot and i seem pretty much back to normal.

Most people have hemorrhoids, whether they know it or not. This is not anything exceptional in terms of minor, sporadic bleeding. If it's happening constantly then it's an issue you should have looked at by a colorectal specialist (and you should be going to one periodically anyway, though 90% of you don't)
