Paresthesia In Shoulder
« on: October 14, 2008, 12:03:45 am »
Hey, all.  I haven't posted for a while.  :-[

I don't have health insurance atm and I'm between intercontinental relocation - so I'm not sure what to do.  I just need some advice if anyone would be so kind.

To mention, I'm not taking any meds presently.

My left shoulder randomly started burning - and then I completely lost all feeling in it.  I can move my arm - and the numbness is now confined to the front of my shoulder and just a little ways down the top of my arm (in the front).  I have tried stretching it, moving it, sleeping, massaging it - and I still have no feeling in my shoulder - sometimes it will burn or be a 'cold heat' sensation - but the feeling never comes back.  It started affecting my fingers, too, but they seem fine now.

Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this?  I was thinking of a pinched nerve, but it's got me worried - I can't afford all kinds of expensive neurological tests right now.  :'(  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Blessings to all.

Torey, I really have no idea what the answer is.  If it doesn't get any better, I would probably go to an emergency room, where you really don't have to have insurance.

Hi Torey,

It does sound like a pinched  nerve.
I worked for a chiropractic and would strongly advice you to see a good one.
They don't do expsensive tests, but perform their own manual ones.. ( reflexes e.g.)

Sometimes one or a couple of visits is all it takes..

I hope you can afford that.

Are you in Europe or in the US right now?

I agree with Hermie. See a chiropractor.  Often its a vertebra in your neck thats pinching a nerve.

Thanks, all  ;D  I appreciate your taking the time to help me - and I didn't think of a chiropractor *I've never been to one* - and heartforyou - I am currently in the USA  :)  Thanks again, all - I will try to get seen - and hopefully will be able to afford it.

Hey Torey,

It does sound like a pinched nerve, I also recommend going to a Chiropractor. If you have Medicaid, most Chiropractors will accept the amount paid by the state as payment in full.  If you need the Emergency Room, they will not turn you away for inability to pay.  I stopped to have coffee in a neighborhood bar on my way to Mexico.  I wanted one of those big cheap bottles of antibiotics from a border town pharmacy.  Thought I had the flu but the bartender sent me to an emergency room and took care of my car while I was hospitalized for the Summer with PCP/AIDS.

I saw the bill, it was over $60,000 and paid for by Medi-Cal.  ;D  Have the best day
Michael
