Twenty Five Trips Around the Sun.
« on: August 25, 2007, 06:20:05 am »
My 25th birthday is in about 10 days or so.  Ten days is a decasol in the metric system, and this unit of time means something to everyone who's not an American.   ;)

A quarter of a century.

A quarter of a goddamn century.

Jesus.

I know, it's not old at all.  I'm young... still quite young... but I can't help but feel like 25 is still a rather important marker of some sort.

A quarter of a century... makes a girl think.

Get the reference and win a free cocktail.

I also can't help but wonder if I'll live another 25 years.  I think I will.  I'm planning on doing so... but nothing ever turns out as planned.   I guess the Notable Marker is making me think about it more.

Weird.

I took stock of my life this week, and I realize all is pretty sweet.  I've been paying off my debts, have an awesome new job whose salary has vaunted me quite comfortably into the middle class of Richmond, and I can say "bloody diarrhea" about five different ways in French.  If that's not enviable, I don't want to know what is.

I'm quite content... which is a rather novel sensation...  I'm not waiting for the other shoe to drop... I'm just more than a little shocked to make what amounts to the most objective self-examination that I'm able to and realize that for the first time since summer 2001... I really don't have all that much to complain about.

I've had several infections this year, one of which apparently almost took me to meet my maker... but I have bounced back quite nicely, I feel.

Life isn't so bad right now... I don't know when this will change, so I'm set on enjoying it.

I do hope I manage to snag another 25 years though.

Le sigh.

Sweetheart,

A decasol? Yeesh. The IB truly ages all it's victims beyond their years. ;)

Happy Birthday Baby-Benj, you funny old thing. :-*

As far as I can tell, I made up the term decasol... but I really hope I didn't.

It's incredibly nerdy.

 :D

And yes, IB is completely to blame for that.

Thank you very much for the wishes, Matty.  I appreciate it!

Just remember my darlin', when you are counting your blessings, Aunty D has on a pair of underwear older than you. ;D No really. :(

Early Happy Birthday my pet, it has been my joy and privilege to get to know you, if only over the net. Please don't let your new corn-fed optimism dull your edge.

Benj, darlin, you're still a baby. And I mean that in the nicest possible way. ;)

Happy decasol birthday! Eat, drink and be Mary merry, for tomorrow you'll be sixty-five! Yes, it does tend to go by in a blink of an eye, so enjoy each and every moment.

Birthday hugs,

Turning 25 was a major turning point in my life.  Maybe it was some sort of quarter life crisis unrealized, but what started off as just a continuation of the last 24 years ended with me in a totally different place (romantically, job wise, where I was living, friendships) than I was on my birthday.

All was good - just tumultuous and amazing in how much changed in one year's time - it's often the marker that I can look back at and see a distinct divide between two phases of my life.

Hope you enjoy this birthday as well as the next several decades worth.

Happy Birthday, Sir. A quarter of a century - that reminds me of a comment my mother made. I was picking at her because her 50th birthday isn't too far away, and I told her, "Hey Mom, guess what? You'll be half a century old." She calmly replied, "and you'll be a quarter of a century old that same year." You're not old by any stretch of the imagination, and it's good to hear that life is going so well for you as this marker approaches. One good thing, your driver's insurance should have a nice drop after your 25th birthday. It seems there is a drop at 21, a bigger one at 25, and a final big drop at 30.

Wait a minute.  We're all wishing Benj his birthday 10 days in advance?  Like any other flamboyant waster he's going to milk it for over a week.

And he's posting at 6:20 AM on a Saturday -- connect the dots girls.  Or rather connect the lines.

xx sweetie

In my defense, I was 95% sober by this point in the evening.   :D

Strsangely enough, this is the fisrt birthday I'm not trying to milk for all it's worth.

Odd.

But thank you very much to everyone.  You're all amazing!

Palms never changes. It was as you would expect, and is only fun when you are smashed.

I don't like this not being able to smoke and drink thing now. What is the point of being trashed if you can't have a fag clinging to your lip when your propped against the wall up on a stool in the corner. :'(

Fortunately most places here in Boolaboolabongbong have added heated smoking areas, but it would suck bunghole at the Palms. Can't see where they'd add a smoker area there.

You fuckers only HOPE to make it to my age!

A quick little story from Bucko's Vault of Grisly But True Tales of perversity...
I met my third husband, a Venezuelan named Carlos, about ten days before my 25th birthday, and we'd spent every evening since we'd met fucking the night away. As we'd become quite casually intimate, I thought I'd spring my birthday news a few days ahead of time, so he could prepare.

He looked at me with his usual odd look of annoyance and contempt, and with that impenetrable Fez-type accent said:

"Well, I hope you not expecting me to give you anything."

Ahhhhhh, love...we were together for four long years.

Happy Birthday, sweetness-

Love,
B

So the Clap was a lovely birthday surprise, then?

Actually, Carlos never did give me anything that year, but I think I might have gifted him.

"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful nor conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful. Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth. It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope, and to endure whatever comes." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, adaptation in A Walk To Remember
