Title: Please help me
Post by: need2know on October 03, 2006, 02:22:12 pm
Hello All,

I am dire need of help.  I have been married to my husband for 14 years.  Stupid me...I had unprotected  vaginal sex with someone else on March 21 & March 27 2006.  In May I developed a yeast infection that went away with 5 days.  In July I had a stomach virus with fever and for a couple of days.  I never thought of anything, until my husband developed a lump above his adams apple and I started researching .  The other guy is in the navy and he just got test for hiv in August 5, 2006 and it was negative.  what are the chances here?  Please someone help...I cant sleep, I cant eat, I feel like I am haviing all these symptoms.

need,

Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv infection. Only the appropriate test at the appropriate time will reliably inform you of your hiv status. You also cannot go by someone else's test results, unless you have seen them with your own eyes.

As this matter is causing you so much anxiety, you should test because you have had a theoretical risk. I say theoretical because if this man is indeed negative, then you did NOT have a risk because he cannot give you what he doesn't have. You can find an anonymous testing center near you by going to the HIV testing center database (http://www.hivtest.org/index.htm) and entering your zip code.

A test now will be conclusive as any test at or over the three month point is conclusive.

While you're here, please read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) and follow the Testing and Transmission Lessons links. Here's a few more pointers for you:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Need,

If you've seen the test result yourself, there's no reason to be frightened. You don't really need to test, except for your own peace of mind. As long as there is no way your husband could be hiv positive - through his own marital infidelities - there is no reason to expect anything other than a negative result.

If you are having physical problems that worry you, go see your doctor. From everything you've said here there is no reason to suspect hiv involvement in any way, shape or form.
