Oxandrin (Oxandralone)
« on: August 10, 2007, 09:04:53 am »

I was injecting Nandrolone Deconate (steroid) but manufacture of the drug has been discontinued.  It had really helped me gain weight and some muscle mass.  I'm planning on asking my physician about Oxandrin as a replacement.  It's expensive but the ASO in my area would fund part of it...partial year being better than none it would seem.

Who has taken Oxandrin here and have you had success or not?  Thanks.

From what I've heard one must be careful with Oxandrin and HIV due to liver issues, but I guess your doctor discussed this with you already.  Of course because of these liver issues the halting of Nandrolone Deconate is doubly a tragedy for the group of people who, despite HAART, still experience repeated wasting issues and see no benefit from topical solutions like Androgel.

Gary,

I took Oxandrin for about six months about six years ago, when I was suffering from moderate wasting and couldn't keep weight on. It did help, especially when combined with exercise.

I had to stop taking it because of the liver problems that Philly mentioned. I don't need it now, since my appetite has returned and I'm back up at my normal weight.

Gary

I've just completed a 30 run on Oxandrolone (10 mg twice daily).  I've used this drug off and on many times to counter weight loss.

(Because of some surgery I had in March my weight fell to 138 vs my normal 150).

The drug works well in conjunction with exercise in restoring lost muscle mass and overall weight.  As Philly and Allan mention, you will have to watch your liver values because it can be very hard on the liver.

The only other thing is that the drug does impact my sleep, and it does make me more aggressive and easily agitated.  You might also experience some dermatological problems (like acne or Sebaceous Hyperplasia [sp?]).

After 30 days I was able to get my weight back up to 145, so I may think about a second run in a couple of months.

Good luck and let us know how it works.

RAB
