Briefly, I am married but had an extra-marital affair. It was protected insertive anal sex and analingus with a prostitute with unknown status. Later,I told my wife about it and we are working it out. Here is the thing, more than three months have passed since the incident and I have tested negative. What is creeping me out is that after the news of my negative status was given to me at the clinic the woman working there was telling me that 3 months is far too soon to have a definitive result. She told me that because I am so young and healthy my body may be fighting the hiv and it maybe did not show up on the test (rapid test, finger prick). She said odd things like this. Can it be true? I was tortured for three months waiting and then thought this was the end, I can be free again but then she is saying I need to go another three months suffering and worrying.

Basically, I have started having unprotected sex with my wife again regardless, so please tell me your opinion(because apparently some clinic workers are either very conservative or misinformed), am I conclusively negative at this point or should I have waited three more months to be 100 percent negative? My wife never had another partner but me, and I have not had any other woman except her and the prostitute. I wont see any more woman other than my wife from now on, but want to know is it safe at this point for me to have unprotective anal sex with my wife? I dont want to harm my wife if I have jeapordized myself.

You never had a risk in the first place.

Anilingus isn't a risk. Not only is saliva not infectious, but it also contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

Protected intercourse is just that - protected. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. There have been three long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one.

The nurse you spoke to was wrong in just about everything she told you. A young healthy person will create antibodies in a timely fashion - and antibodies are the detectable result of your body fighting a pathogen. The hiv test you took looks for antibodies. When enough antibodies have been formed to produce a positive result, this is called seroconversion.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six WEEKS, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week or more negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

You do not have hiv, which is not surprising as you never had a risk in the first place.

You are conclusively, reliably hiv negative. Move on with your life.
