I thought since I've posted so much about our dog Oliver here that I needed to let you all know that we had to say our goodbyes to him on Tuesday. Many of you already know through facebook and we are grateful for all of your kind words.
It was pretty sudden but he has been through the mill with health issues this past year and both Kenny and I knew he would probably not have a long life.
Vestibular Disease several years ago, then bladder stones, diabetes, and blindness. It was his pancreas that failed him after all that he had been through.
He never lost his happy spirit for long even during the bleakest of times. We will miss him forever.

I'm very sorry . Being a good friend in the end is a cruel deal we make when we open our homes and hearts to our four legged family . I feel sorry for those that has never known the special kind of love that comes from sharing a life with such an honest creature .

Oh Mitch,
I am so sorry to hear this. I know how hard it is! He was a very lucky dog to have such caring daddies........
Hugs,
Mike

Oh, hon. I am so sorry for your loss.

Mitch,
Just wanted to say it here as well, that I am sorry about the loss of Oliver. They are family members. I still grieve our Kacey. Man, it was hard. I was doing the whole ugly cry at the vet. They already don't live long enough and it would seem especially unfair to just get to live half that time. Even though his life was short, I know it was filled with love and great times.
Hugs!

I had not seen this on Facebook so I'm glad you posted it here. Sorry for your loss, Mark.

Mitch, so, so sorry. I'm here to talk if you need... :'(

Thanks guys. Just when I think the tears have stopped they suddenly can rebound.
I keep saying out loud to him that I wish he had a better life (in health) but I know in my heart he was always way ahead of me.
Funny how another living soul that cannot speak can be so entirely devoted to us. He reminded me on a daily basis to be as chipper as possible.
Tomorrow I will try to wake up remembering his lessons.
Time for a few laughs to distract me in the mean time.

Sorry about your loss. :(
Their time with us is always way too short.

Words can't express how heavy my heart has been for you. I hope when he meets the princess, Miss Lily Anna Wolfe, that he realizes she is pure and their friendship is strictly platonic.
Take care and best wishes.

Thanks again everyone.

I wouldn't count on it if I were her. He spent his time here neutered.
Thanks for the laugh and kind words.

The late Miss Millie was a total slut and will leave him more than satisfied , Mitch. I loved the dog but she was a bitch who made no bones about er enjoying a bone .

Dear Mark,
My sincerest condolences on your loss of Oliver. As a testament, to the love you shared, I offer the following:
A DOG'S PRAYER
By Beth Norman Harris
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest--and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
Joe

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my dog of just 7 years this past April...
The Rainbow Bridge
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge
There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water, and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.
Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of the days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...
