Roger Lee (Rocky) Sykes, Jr.

Roger Lee (Rocky) Sykes, Jr., age 44, departed this life on April 15 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Roger Lee Sykes, Sr. and his brother, John E. (Jay) Sykes.

He is survived by his mother, Sadie Sykes of Tazewell and his son, Jonah Patton Kelly Sykes of Hurley.

A memorial service will be held at the Linkous Chapel Freewill Baptist Church on Dry Fork at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 18, 2009 with Pastor Jonah Sparks, uncle of the deceased, and Jennifer Johnson, cousin, officiating. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 101 Deer Run Lane, Tazewell, VA on Friday, April 17 from 12:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rocky's favorite charity, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ 85718 (www.mdausa.org.)

Online condolences may be sent to the family by going to www.SingletonFuneralService.com.

Singleton Funeral Service is serving the Sykes family.

He was one of my closets friends and one of my only friend that I had that lived near me here in my area. He too was HIV positive. He will surely be missed. My heart is broken. :'(
