Title: burning itcy skin
Post by: stressed on November 27, 2006, 04:58:21 pm
I went down to Tijuana, Mexico on a vacation with some friends. we enter a strip bar were things happen for $. The place was dark and hard to see. i had sex with, i thought was a lady and turned out to be man with no male parts. it was confusing after i started having my doubts that it could be man. she performed oral sex with condon on me. Then she laid down and tried to have sex... i noticed that she kept her hand holding my penis... why we were trying to have sex, condom broke but when i saw it appreared to brake off at the shaft area... she put on a new condom and she bent over and i think we had anal sex ... but not sure...i came in the condom and later removed it.she continued to play with my penis without the condom but no penetration. by this time i was just nerves... when i returned to my seat i was in sweats and nervous.  it was my first night there at the hotel and i woke up with redness on my belly and armpits burning and rash.... i taught maybe a new deodorant i used and thoaught i just put to much cologne on my torso. the next couple i stressed and felt other symptoms like burning tear ducks and cheeks and lips ... later skin started itchy and tingles... mouth takes like metal and when eat taste like pepper.... went to see my doctor 5 days later and lymph nodes were OK... he was more worried about std so he sent me to urine and hiv in 6 weeks... i did them both the next day ... because i was sure the symptom's ...i was infected, no doubt in my mind. i  cried and hated myself.... at 1 week they both came back negative... i still lots of stress and itchy skin and face, scalp... scared over the first day i developed the rash on my torso... cant function. your taught.

stressed,

Itchy skin has nothing to do with hiv. Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv, only testing will reliably reveal your hiv status.

It sounds as though you have nothing to worry about. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection and it doesn't sound as though you were actually inside this person when you had one break.

If I'm following you correctly, you have had an hiv test at six weeks after the incident. As the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, it's highly unlikely that your hiv status will change.

I don't really see a need for further testing in this case. However if you need a conclusive result to ease your mind, do one at the three month point.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

All of the details notwithstanding and ditto for the various symptoms, it appears to me from what you've written that when you had intercourse you were wearing a condom except for a very brief period when it broke (and was replaced by another condom).

There is nothing in anyway HIV-specific about your symptoms. But then neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is ever the way to know anything accurately about your HIV status. Only an HIV test at the proper time will give you that answer.

HIV is not an easy virus to transmit. It is significantly harder to accomplish to the insertive partner. Given this was a single incident in which you mostly had a condom on, the odds are way in your favor against transmission having occured.

If your symptoms persist you should discuss them again with your doctor. You're so worked up emotionally right now that it wouldn't be surprising if some of the skin outbreak is as likely to be from stress as anything else.

As Ann has told you, all but the smallest number of those who are going to seroconvert will do so within 4-6 weeks. My suggestion is you test then. Assuming you collect the negative result I expect you can re-test at 13 weeks to remove any doubts from your mind.

I expect you to come out of this ok.

Cheers,

Thanks for your help, I'm fine most of the time and visited my doctor twice since the incident on 11/02/06.
but i cant help thinking about the redness on my torso and the burning in the armpits the
following morning.
is it possible to show symptoms that quick of the body fighting off infection? or was this coincidental?
cant help but think about the initial symptoms, it keeps bothering me.
i know there nothing i can do till my 6 week for test.

thanks, please would like to hear your response

None of the symptoms that you indicate, are related to HIV.

stressed,

Symptoms related to primary hiv infection, if they happen at all, do NOT happen the next morning. They take between two to four weeks - again, if they happen at all. Not everyone experiences any noticeable symptoms.

I've yet to see an insertive partner become infected following a condom break and I don't expect you to be the first. Make sure you read through those condom and lube links in my signature line so you can avoid all this worry in the future.

these symptoms i have is what keeps  me guessing.., after my trip i told my girlfriend what had happened 3 days after incident. we had unprotected sex like always on the 4th  day... on the second week she started feeling symptoms of burning lips and tingling under the skin around eye and cheek area. same symptoms i had. she suffers from anxeity as well as i did. she is now nervous all the time... hard for her to rest... she normally wakes up vomiting in the morning... we can rule out pregnacy... how can this be...
 have i infected her?...
if i am infected at all?
is she just scared?

this is on are minds almost 24/7
thanks for thoughts....

Stressed,

You and your girlfriend should not be having unprotected intercourse unless you two tested together for hiv and all the other STIs before you dispensed with the condoms. Why? Nothing to do with your recent experience, but because that is what you should be doing with ANY sexual partner you may have. I wish I had a dollar for every person I've met who was infected from their regular partner - because they never tested together before going bare. In fact, I'm one of them.

You and your girlfriend need to see your doctor(s) as we cannot possibly diagnose your symptoms over the internet. I can tell you though that nothing you report sounds anything like ARS. The vomiting in the morning sounds like stress or pregnancy and unless you've tested for pregnancy, you can't really rule it out. Accidents happen and the Pill sometimes fails. Been there, done that too.

It's unlikely that you would have been infected through a condom break. The only way to know for sure is to test, no earlier than six weeks, as you have been told. Forget trying to analyse your symptoms yourself, take them to a doctor.

i have read that primary HIV when infected 50 to 80 % have red trunk ... tip off that the rest of the flu like symptoms are not the flu...

i had a red stomach the next day and have not encountered any mouth sores or flu like symptoms since .
it has been 4 weeks.

scared about the red stomach...the next morning... it only lasted about day.

sorry for the nagging questions... you are great help....

God bless you.

No matter what your mind is coming up with to scare you about, there's absolutely nothing HIV-specific or suggestive of HIV about your symptoms.

If your girlfriend is having symptoms she should discuss them with her doctor.

Seek out the help of a mental health professional. This thread has nothing to do with HIV.

i just wanted to add that the burning sensations on mt skin was gone all of last week, but i started getting pain behind my ears and jaw very tenesed... this morning i started feeling the burning again... i can t be making this stuff up...i remeber that the person i had the intial encounter with had some type of sunburn or irritation on her back, because she complain when i touched her there and she had a sore aorund the lips...
can HIv be transmitted from a few minutes of french kissing?
Are the symtoms i feel related to HIV or can it be another disease that she might have passed to me?
I am really trying to stay focused...
can you help with my questions, do you think this even related to hiv???

stressed,

I'm quite sure you are not imagining your symptoms. However, they have nothing to do with hiv. You have not put yourself at risk for hiv. Kissing is not a risk for hiv.

Go see your doctor and explain your symptoms to him/her. You cannot be diagnosed over the internet, you MUST see a doctor.

This is NOT an hiv situation.

Thanks Ann for all your help, and explainhing to me in detail. i have a ???.
what do it mean when you say that most people will serconvert by 4-6 weeks?
what is serconvert and what are some of the systems?
I have all kinds of systems, I'm sure you have have read from the beging of my threads. i have felt burning skin, itchy skin, rash under armpits after a few hrs after possible exposure. they come and go and about 4-6 weeks in i felt pain behind my ears, jaw tension, sore throat for a few days. i keep telling my self that my exposure was very harmless and cant be infected. the only way i can be infected is by hand contact or kissing or lubrication that might have come in contact. please i will try to keep my head straight.
do you think i  am over reacting?
does this even sound remote like an HIV concern?

please try to give me your advise. i really try not to bother you guys with my concerns.
thanks for all your help.

Your symptoms are totally irrelevant. And no, none of them are in any way HIV specific. Which is not a surprise since you weren't at risk for HIV.

If you haven't already read the lessons on Transmission and Testing, read them and you will find answers to your questions about seroconversion, etc. There's a link to them in the Welcome thread which begins this section.

What you really need to do it to go to your doctor and have yourself checked out thoroughly to find what the real cause may be of those symptoms. Even though your mind may continue to tell you otherwise, this has nothing to do with HIV and it's way past time that you looked elsewhere for an explanation.

Really.

Sorry for writing again with you might think the same dumb questions...
Ann, had mentioned that she had not heard of an insertive partner getting infected following a condom break. my question this sex worker that i think i had sex with might have been a male following the condom beak at the top of my penis,.. i worry about fluid contact with my penis after the fact?
i still feel the burning and tingling in my skin 8 weeks and mouth and tongue still tingle and burn... i have noticed more then usual  dark sunspots in my skin.
pain in my jaw and ear started after throat infection at 4 weeks went to see doctor at 6 weeks and he gave me antibiotics... dont know what to think...me & my girlfriend, who we both were monogamous relationship for 5 years... she has similar symptoms and we both suffer from anxiety..
please help with your taughts

You think it was a male? Give it a break. If you are going to test, then test. There is NO thinking about if I had sex with a male or a female.

We cannot diagnose symptoms here. Nothing you are reporting is HIV specific, which is not surprising since it was barely a risky incident.

Get yourself HIV tested to eliminate that question. Collect what I expect will be a negative result and then see a doctor about your symptoms. You and your gf maybe passing something back and forth between yourselves and it has nothing to do with HIV. Happens to couples all the time.

It's good to read you're under a doctor's care for your various symptoms, none of which of course are in any way HIV-specific.

TMJ  can be very problematic so it's good that you're getting some help with that.

Good luck with your HIV test. I do expect you'll come out of that ok.

Cheers,
