Even if you had a genuine risk for HIV such as unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse, it is highly unlikely that you will test negative after a negative result at 11 weeks. You can for your peace of mind re-test at 3 months. I certainly expect you will test negative again.

Leave your lymph nodes alone. They are very sensitive to the touch. You should discuss your problem with them with your doctor. Lymph nodes swell and become sensitive for all sorts of reasons that have nothing to do with HIV.

I don't see this as an HIV situation when you have received a negative result at 11 weeks.

No.

The exceptions to testing out to 6 months are cases which involve longtime intravenous drug use, organ transplant or treatment for a serious illness such as cancer. Otherwise 3 months is the standard time for a conclusive negative result.

If you are concerned see your dentist or doctor. It has nothing to do with HIV.

Keep your hands off of your lymph nodes. Pressing and handling them can cause real problems because they are so sensitive. Nothing you are reporting symptomatically is HIV specific.

Even if you had a genuine risk for HIV such as unprotected vaginal or anal intercourse, it is highly unlikely that you will test negative after a negative result at 11 weeks. You can for your peace of mind re-test at 3 months. I certainly expect you will test negative again.

When you said stop pressing your lymph nodes i havnt for about 3 weeks now but ther still really really hurting me everywer even the back of my knees sometimes. Ther just isnt anything else that could be possibly doing this. My doctor wants more blood work. Im really scared of the results changing. Iv been checked for hep and all other infections and they are all neg. im frightened that i could be that 1% that seroconverts late. When my doctor felt all lymph nodes he said dont panick yet it could just be glandulour fever..... If thats how u spell it. I just keep thinking it just a bit of a coincidence( sorry for the spelling. Any advice i cant put this to rest it really is getting me worried. And thanks for all your replys

How many times have you been hopitalized in the last year for a chronic immune disease? How long ago was it you were on chemo? How long ago was it you had an organ transplant? How long have you been doing IV injection drugs?

Then you are not of the 1% and your test is conclusive you don't have HIV.

In an adult, a positive HIV antibody test result means that the person is infected, a person with a negative or inconclusive result may be in the “window for 4 to 6 weeks but occasionally up to 3 months after HIV exposure. Persons at high risk who initially test negative should be retested 3 months after exposure to confirm results

Jamie,

If you need another hiv test for closure on this, by all means go have one done. Just don't be surprised when you get another negative result.

You never did mention why you were testing in the first place. Unless it was unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, you've been worrying for nothing anyway. Not to mention wasting everyone's time.

If you continue to feel unwell, keep working with your doctor to find out what is going on. Whatever that may be, it is not hiv. You have already ruled hiv out as a possible cause. You are conclusively hiv negative.

If you read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Jamie,

Fine, go test again. Just don't be surprised when you get another negative result.

Keep working with your doctor to find out what, if anything, is actually going on. Whatever it is, you have already ruled hiv out as a possible cause.

Please learn from this and stop having unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse. Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Jamie,

That's why unauthorized posting is not permitted in the Am I Infected forum. People post incorrect or just plain stupid things and all it does is confuse everyone. He probably has no idea why he said "no" himself - or he posted accidentally. If I saw it before you did, you wouldn't have even known it was there because I would have deleted it. Forget about it. It's irrelevant.

You can waste all the money you want testing and your time, but you do not have an HIV concern. Put your money to better use and seek professional mental help to accept your conclusive test result.

You should discuss your swollen lymph nodes with your doctor. They can be swelling for all sorts of non-HIV reasons.

You have reliably tested negative for HIV. HIV is not your problem. There is no reason for further concern about that. There is nothing more that we can do for you in this setting.

And if you can't let go of your unwarranted fears, as Rod suggested it would be good to see a counselor or other professional to discuss that. HIV is not your problem.
