« on: July 21, 2011, 02:50:02 pm »
Hey guys,

So heres my situation...Im 22 and since ive been in college ive had some encounters...Ive had quite a few BJs without a condom...Everytime ive had sex ive used a condom though....but one time it broke and i pulled out immediately.  Am i at risk? These encounters have happened over the last 3 years, with the most recent being 3 weeks ago.  Should i get tested?

Thanks everyone

You never had an HIV exposure. HIV is not transmitted by Oral Sex.

kid,

The only risk was the condom break - although as you pulled out immediately, you're highly unlikely to end up with hiv through being the insertive partner when a condom breaks. If you've never tested, you would be wise to do so. As long as it has been at least three months or more since the broken condom, your result will be conclusive.

Getting a blowjob is absolutely not a risk for hiv infection.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence. A correctly used condom rarely breaks.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Yes, you should get tested just to confirm your negative status. Given what you have reported it is very likely you will test negative.

But scared or not, you don't want to be always worrying about this. Suck it up and get tested. You can do an initial test at 6 weeks. Assuming you get the negative result we expect you to, that will mean you are most likely going to test negative again for a conclusive result at 13 weeks.

Listen, this is a part of behaving responsibly to yourself and to others. If you're old enough to be having sex then this is a part of it.

I do expect you to come out of this ok.

So i found out today, that the person who i had the condom break with, tested negative last month....The incident occured over 2 years ago.  Should i still be worried, since all ive done since then without a condom has been receiving oral?

Your risk was minimal to begin with. What you have heard about the other person's HIV status is what I call hearsay.

Why live with any uncertainty. Get tested at 3 months and get what I expect will be your own negative result. Thus all doubts will be removed. That's what I recommend.

Kid,

You can test for hiv at any time to receive a conclusive result. Forget about this "oh I don't have to test because that person tested negative" crap. Man up and go get a FULL sexual health check up.

While you're not going to become infected with hiv through getting blown, you CAN get other infections such as gonorrhea, herpes, chlamydia and syphilis.

Anyone who is sexually active - and that includes getting blowjobs - should be having a FULL sexual health check up at least once a year, twice if you have several partners and any time you have unprotected intercourse. It's what responsible people do.
