My thanks, dear Ann.

You're most welcome, darling.

I remember reading about Mr Havel back in the 90s, but I don't recall reading anything more recent. That's a hoot about him roller-skating around the Parliament building.

He was a brave man who fought for his beliefs. We could all learn a thing or two from his life. I love his motto - "truth and love will prevail over lies and hatred".

And I must confess - yesterday when I first glanced at the title of this thread, I thought it was about someone from the Velvet Underground. ;D

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

From what I have read off him he would off loved being connected to the Velvets.

As far as I understand, its a velvet revolution because unlike what was going down in the other satellite states it was entirely peacefull. It was also to speak to the oppositions differant strength iron fist in a velvet glove. When a dear friend finishes the book I read that covers the break up off the Soviet Europe , I will print the title its a history book that reads like a cold war thriller.

I have a thin personal connection as I ping ponged between Vienna-Budapest-Prag
1975 to 80.
ed to add;  you see what happens when a innocent Working Class boy reads Christopher Isherwood ,Le- Carrie , and then sees Cabaret .
